idk if you solved the issue already. go to home depot and buy yourself a new outlet. there will be a shit pile of voltage running through and it's not worth fucking it up. after that with the box end un attached (the part that goes to the city for power we will be working on the other part) attach the ground (usually a bare copper sometimes a green) to the grounding side. (usually a green screw) attach the white and red (just the last one I worked on; it can be white, black, or red. IT IS NEVER A BARE COPPER) to the other two screws the hots (you are doing 220 so there are two hots). I wrap the entire outlet with black electric tape so I could in theory grab the outlet while on without worry of shock or debris landing on it. (if you don't have screws and only wires look up how to do that; it's super easy. be sure to CAP THE ENDS, and wrap in electrical tape). when working with high voltages like this; (while still off) I give the cable a nice tug to make sure it will stay connected. I'm not going to tell you how to work on your box, I don't want to be responsible for a burned down bulding. . .
but it's not hard youtube it.
rember electric can and will kill you, don't be high while working with it, and if you think you're making a stupid mistake you are.
