Anyone else taken Harley Smith's 12-week course?

I've watched all of Harley's videos at least 2-3 times and was wondering if the classes (which they charge for) are just redundant to the info that he has on youtube (which is free). I guess the live/interactive aspect of it would be neat - and you could ask him questions directly.

I've leached so much info from his free content that I almost feel obligated to pay for his course and check it out.

Looks like the next series starts today: www.npk-university/classes

Save your money and do some reading.

I found a great spot to download FREE POT BOOKS . I downloaded a grow bible first and got lots more. Books look great and complete like the real ones I have here. No web site but just a page of links. Just right click on what you want and then "Save Link As" to download so they don't open first as many are 50+ megs. They got lots. Enjoy.

:peace:

It's all the same information. You're not going to find one reputable grower who has any different info than any other place/person out there, if they know what they're doing.

All the info is free! Search YouTube, go to GrowWeedEasy.com, read my thread, (link in the signature box) download any if the countless FREE books out there. The only step missing is someone hand-feeding you the info. Well, I guess instant feedback and direction may be lacking, but that's what these vast forums are all about.

Just don't get lazy at this critical time. If you show laziness here, you'll certainly carry that bad habit into he garden, where you will have far less than stellar results.

Let me take a sec and try to provide a little better info for ya

As I usually state, growing weed, especially all the way from seed to smoke, is not all that easy, especially for non-technical people or those without a green thumb. The info can be overwhelming and confusing, especially with hydroponics. There's a reason why so many people still buy from people selling. Not everyone has the time or ability to do this. It is a daily chore that presents challenges at every step for new growers.

The best advice I can give is this:
  • Start with soil, not hydro
  • Start with only a few plants. Problems are exponential with several
  • Find a single reputable source, and stick with it. I highly suggest GrowWeedEasy
  • Don't mix your soil, just start with a middle of the road potting soil. I like Black Gold Organic Mix, myself, but even Scott's will work. Just DO NOT use Miracle Grow. Too many reasons to explain
  • Don't mix nutrients, or use boosters/additives. Stick with very simple nutrients, like GH Maxi, or Flouro series
  • Balancing your pH is extremely important. Many new growers just shoot this aside, then they wonder where all their problems are coming from.
  • Take it one step at a time. Each week, have a plan, and follow the GrowWeedEasy, week by week guide
  • Adding more nutrients is not a solution for most problems. Read up, then react. Don't just react. The GrowWeedEasy site has a great plant problem identifier guide with solutions. Keep it bookmarked
  • Absolutely do not go from yardwork or gardening, into the grow room. It's a sure way to get really bad bugs, some which can decimate your crop in just a day or two. Treat your grow space like a sterile lab, and you'll save yourself tons of heartbreak and work
  • Don't try and come up with your own methods or techniques. Chances are, if you don't see it advised by the experienced growers here, then it's been tried and rejected. Just concentrate on what you've been learning to do by the pros.
Like I said, not everyone's up for all this work, and I've only scratched the surface. It's a great hobby, and there a ton of rewards, but it's not as easy as planting a seed, watering it, then smoking it 3 months later. It is a daily routine, especially in the beginning. After you get the hang of it, it becomes fairly easy.

After rereading your post, I realize that my long winded response may have been a little off-base from what you were asking. If you find you're still watching the videos over and over again, they either may not be the best source of info for you, or you're just not picking it up.

Have you started growing yet, or planned out a grow? Where are you at in this whole process? Even if you're just an enthusiast, and don't actually plan on growing, that's cool too :)

I like that Harley Smith guy, I emailed him (them) a few times and got responses, though some were vague.
I like the website, it has some good info as do the vids.
But I would not be at all surprised if he is just an actor with an ear piece hidden in them moss chops and a bunch of dudes in the background telling him what to say. Like those folks who claim to be Clairvoyant.

I want to mention that I've never seen the videos, and have absolutely nothing bad to say about them. I was speaking in generalities. :)

I took his class. lots of basic but good information. like they say, a black belt is a master of the basics. It's worth the $90 if you get even one gold nugget ... or maybe two. there's also the one on one.

lots of info on riu ... and lots of sifting through pages of bad advice and opinions too.
