I do; but see id rather not talk about it cuz people here will laugh at me! but i think its working cuz my plants had never had a problem after I applied my stuff on leaves and roots. I treated my very own first grow as one big experiment where it dint really matter if the if the plant died or dint have big yields...i planted on different mediums with different conditions and also different strains. say i have 2 northern lights x bubble berry ON 5 gallon buckets, 2 headbands in ground with 2 different set of medium composition and nutes partition equally, 1 querkle and 1 blue cheese on the same type of medium composition, 1 blue dream on another kind of medium composition, 4 white russians with same mediums but different nutes- 2 sets of nutes from hydro stores and 2 fed with my home brew, 1 sourdiesel and 1 ak 47 on same mediums, . I test my home made nutes on tomatoes, squash, all kinds of ground covers and shrubs before testing on my plants. i record and take videos, pics of all my plants everyday and water them regularly everyday but only water just enough to cool down the plants and not drench the whole soil; only the roots. so obviously i have a way (injection) of adding nutes and water to roots directly while still using soil as a medium. this way i allow the bacteria and such to work from the roots outwards instead of the typical top soil only drenching. i also test the hydro store nutes i get on "control" tomatoes and such to see any difference between home brew and company made nutes.
what i learned? homebrew and hydro store nutes work...but not ALL hydro store nutes work or work for every strain while home brew nutes work for all the strains and veggies i use it on at a MUCH MUCH more cheaper price. the downside? home brew nutes need time to react so apply it to your medium BEFORE even planting on the medium and apply the nutes every other watering if you so desire because most organic stuff i use wont burn. there are also natural flushing agents and natural liquids to have your nutes pass through medium easily AND much more effectively than just mixing it with water and drenching your medium with it. in fact, the more you can mix homebrew in the least amount of water the better. the way i do it is that get a nice thick but liquid consistency that should be a little warm and make sure you apply this liquid to roots only if possible; let it work from roots outward. then have your pure water run UNDERNEATH you medium where only external outer roots will suck it upwards to the plants. how to do that is quit a bit of a challenge especially when you plant in ground. I use a lysimeter type RESERVOIR that is operated by soil pressure to deliver water underground when needed. it took me the whole winter to set that up.
I use urine in my home brew a lot. use nightsoils too but only at the outer edge of my root systems so obviously i built cannals around my grows to run ph balanced semi-blackwater around my grow and let soil sucking pressure and outer roots to suck up whatever it needes from the water without burning or hurting them and if it does hurt my plants i quickly just close up my canal and run clean water with flushing agents. maybe you can look up bokashi composting too.
i have learned alot from my environmental studies major that sadly im not going to finish for idealists reasons. Ive learned about ethnobotany and how traditional resource management can actually help the way I grow things. too bad im not staying here in cali though! i cant wait to bring all the knowledge i learned here and bring it back home to the tropical islands of the philippines which i have not gone home to for 11 years. i will update everyone here once i have set up my greehouse and permaculture design there. anyone would be a welcomed visitor too!
anyways thanks for starting this thread.
