I'm a prepared citizen, and don't wish to depend on anyone else, outside my network. I garden, can, dehydrate, keep up a PT regimen, and educate myself. I don't go crazy over prepping, but I've found that prepping has really been a positive influence in my life. I guess it all started in Boy Scouts :) are there prepared folks on here, and if so, how do you prep?

Sometimes I can barely afford groceries for the month and have enough left over for travel / rent / booze etc. Buying a couple years worth of food I'm not going to eat, then building an underground fortress to store it in, is pretty low on my priority list.

I do get a kick out of watching those Doomsday Prep shows on NatGeo though. The shit those characters say is fascinating. In one episode, a mulleted gentleman spent 13k on a really killer stuffed puma to put in his bunker. Showed off his collection of big knives. Then he talked for 20 mins about the pros and cons to composting your own feces. That dude is gonna get so much apocolypse pussy...

can of beans, on sale here, some bargain rice there........it adds up. at least have a weeks worth, imo, and a way to purify water. it doesn't have to be Armageddon, to get all jammed up. look at Katrina.

I confess, I still keep a bug out bag with a loaded pistol and a weeks worth of essentials in my room - water, dryfood, warm clothes. Built one for my kid too. I've got a genny that can run for a week or two if I rationed gas. I suppose I have a small head start in case something fucked should happen. I feel like I'm still arguably just as useless as anyone else though.

Having dankbud to barter with. Now there is someone who is prepared.

I prep, but am not a dooms day prepper. I garden, and am a pressure cooking fool. If the price of vegetables or meat is good but I don't have the freezer space, vegetables, soup, stews, and chili pressure cooked/jared for long term storage without electricity. I also buy a little extra canned whatever when I am able to also add to my "oh shit" food cache in my basement. If it is food but does not need electricity to keep, that is added when able. I rotate from the cache for normal meals. Older stuff is used and replaced with new so I don't have a bunch of expired food. My only critical issue is water. I have zero storage, and storing the required amount of water for X people for X amount of time takes up a lot of space. I would not rely on hunting for food for very long...If enough people are forced to that, the animal and edible plant population will be depleted. For food, I try to have enough for my family for a month or so if a storm takes out the power or other natural disaster, or if we need to leave the area for what ever reason. Even have a 8000 watt portable generator that can back feed the house. We can run 90% of the house on that, and have for 12 hours when a storm knocked the town off the grid. If you let others know you stockpile food and have a generator, you better have guns and are willing to use them...if things really get bad, people will turn bad and they will come for your shit and not care about you.
I even have chickens and ducks for eggs/meat.

I don't cry when my dog runs away
I don't get angry at the bills I have to pay
But I have a lot of fucking bills to pay
And it kills me every other day
In fact I can barely afford groceries

Preparing for what? I'm a prepped, I make sure to have breakfast available each morning.
I thought about raising grubs, and eating them.....lol. they're supposedly tasting, yet revolting. I researched eating pigeons in the city, but turns out its like eating a lead sinker, they are so polluted by urban waste.
