Any professionally educated botanists of some sort on here? Need scientific answer.

I was just wondering something.

I know this may sound like such a stupid idea and I am SURE that at least 50% of you have thought of or actually tried this before - so please dont mistake this post I am not asking for an experience confirmation but more of a scientific answer of what this process will actually do.

When growing your plants its possible to put multiple lights on a timer - I have noticed that since I started using my tiny HPS light on 30 min intervals with my cfls on the full 12 hours that it managed to have a "low light start up" period where the low wattage hps lights up the room alone for 30 mins before the regular lights come on.

I have notices substantial growth and thickness of the buds on my plants since i started doing this.

Could it be just because I added a hps light or could it be that I am trying to simulate not only a morning low light intensity but also "cloud cover" as the light turns off and the cfls take over for a half hour.

Am I making sense or did I smoke too much sour d.

I don't think varying the light intensity is going to buy you anything. Cannabis plants grow best in bright light.

You'll get the best growth with maximum light intensity whenever the lights are on.

HPS lights in particular tend to put out a good spectrum that plants like. If you've suddenly added extra HPS, of course your plants will do better.

Lastly, both HPS and fluorescent lamps have "warm up" periods before they put out maximum light intensity. Besides reducing the operating life of your bulbs, cycling them off and on more often than you need to will also waste energy. There is no good reason I can see to alternate fluro and HPS; run both at once.
