Amsterdam: Need a Hotel or BnB Recommendation

So i'm flying over the evening of Wednesday, 9/30, arriving in Dublin AM on 10/01. I'm then jumping immediately onto a flight to Amsterdam to get some high time before dealing with cousins for a week. I'm looking right now at Best Western Dam Square. Does anyone have a hotel or BnB recommendation? I've never been before. I prefer not to spend a ton of $ but want safe and descent. I'll be in a huge farmhouse in Ireland so I want a hotel or BnB with some amenities. I want to be close to some coffee shops as my only real reason to go is get ridiculously high before going back to Ireland. I'll have a friend with me but we can share bed. We don't really care about that. Any knowledge is appreciated. Thanks.

Bring a rain coat. This has been the wettest summer in 5 years i recon, but that might mean that autumn is better.

I stayed at the Hotel Winston a couple times. A funky (pretty cheap) art hotel in the red light district. As it is summer, you might want to get something closer to the Vondelpark.
