am i right?

ok so i started my first grow about a week ago and some people here on RIU help me come to the realization that this thing is gonna stink up my house. i know you can go 12/12 straight from seed, so if i put it into flowering next week will the smell be not as bad? it makes sense to me, less buds=less of a pungent smell. am i correct in thinking this or will it be just as bad?

Nah.. you won't have any really strong odors till 4-5 weeks into flowering. It might start to smell but nothing pungent till later in bloom.

Get a charcoal filter if you have an exhaust fan, I have a 10x10 room and a 6" charcoal fan only smell anything if I go into room. I am thinking about a small ozone generator for the room out side to take any smells out.

smell is smell bro .. small or big if they bud they smell .. although there are strains that dont smell as much

Smell is very much strain dependent. There are some strains that have a strong odor from early on but generally its midflowering when it really kicks in.

Yes if you grow less bud you will have less smell. In fact if you grow none at all you will have no odor problem. The right approach is to deal with the odor itself.

If you are growing MJ you have to make some serious effort to deal with the smell. A charcoal filter can be very effective. In addition there is a deodorizing product called ONA which helps a lot too. For spot problems like a lingering odor in the hallway, the ordinairy spray can deodorants are useful.

i cant realy afford to buy anything, this is realy ghetto grow. thanks guys for the help, hopefully its a strain that dosnt smell too much

Not really - the batch I'm running is very skunky smelling & we haven't even begun to flower yet.

Check out the home made filter thread on the DIY forum if you're on a budget...

if you only have one plant it will smell in the room its in, but its not going to cause to many issues
you have no money to spend still a few things you can do

remember it smells alot more when the light is on due to the extra heat
if you can run your lights when less people are around at work or sleeping for example it will attract less attention from neighbors
also, you can do alot buy simply using plugin type air freshners or auto spraying in strategic places, like near the front door of you house etc
so anyone walking near the front of your house will only smell air freshener
vent from room to room if you vent, not directly outside, this is better for so many reasons

Yes but smell is relative, what is very skunky to you might not be to someone so bad to someone else. They will smell no matter what and the stage and potency will vary from strain to strain. If you're worried about it and can't do anything about it best advice is to not grow because it will smell but how much and when is the question.

just grow weed. I never care anymore about the smell. most people have no idea anyways.

due to my work schedule and not having a timer, i switch my lights on at 10:30am off at 4:30am, so there on the whole day. i was thinking about using those plugins, maybe even putting some coffee grounds around my grow area

im using ona gel for the first time and im afraid the buds gonna smell like it. thats how much this shit smells.

also ive read your not supposed to give it nutes till two weeks in but i used sterilized soil. should i start giving it nutes?
