Algae Prone

Struggling with algae every single grow. I’m only on my 4th cycle and I still haven’t mastered. Doesn’t help that the creative gene skipped me.

I switched to a 600w LeD last grow, it’s a whole new beast. Super leafy and even more algae. And faster developing. I’m using hydro, top feed drip, reservoir.

I started with 5gal plastic aerated buckets. Then switched to the felt 5g version. My thinking was that I could contain the root growth to the container. (I’m not sure why I even thought that was possible)

I have a two part question; how can I improve this medium and container for my type of growth.

is there any way to wipe out what is currently on my containers? Doesn’t looks healthy for when my roots make it to them.

**regarding the photos**
They were cuttings handed to me over a weekend and I’m surprised they made it out of shock. Still working them back to health.

thank you

Where there is light and moisture there will be algae.

Struggling to see your medium, looks like rockwool?

What you might want to do if you continue with rockwool is get the slabs or bigger blocks, then cut your plastic sheet to cover the whole thing with slits so your stem comes through, everything else would be under the panda film, black and white or what ever you call it.

At the very least get rid of the fabric pots, they are not doing you any favours.

Looks to me your mixing a bunch of hydro ideas instead of going with one.

How you have it set up now I would of gone for hydroton as a medium or a 50/50 mix of hydroton and coco in fabric pots drip fed.

NFT would lend better to rockwool.

Bottom line is stop light getting to anything that can hold algae and gets wet.
