That's the great thing about SciFi and why I, like many others are SciFi nuts and geeks:
We grow up watching cool stuff on TV and dream up ways of making it possible.
War is still the largest force driving technological advancement in many areas but in almost every other its SciFi watching geeks trying to turn SciFi into reality.

I'm expecting to see the seeds of a machine intelligence beyond that of humans before I pass from this Earth.

We are still stupid fucking naked monkeys. We have 'progressed' enough to shit where we eat on a planet wide scale. We kill and enslave one another for sport and profit. We create machines that can and will kill us all and then dare one another to use them.

If AI is going to be the end of us, it better get in line.
