My current set up is three 4x4x8 closets lined with mylar in a large office room (16x12x12) inside my garage. Each run under 400 watt HID systems. I grow ebb & flow in rockwool/hydroton....although next grow gonna try coco. I am curious about turning the whole room into one large flowering area....and I am curious about one thing........it is always stated to line walls with mylar, trap light, small area...but I see alot of big set ups in open area, with lights just hanging free over them. I assume that this is because they are using more light that the plant needs, so light loss is not an issue....all I can think.
I am just curious what detriment I would suffer if I put three 4x4x4 tables in a line with 3 400 watt HID lights over them, and had mylar covered walls on two sides......any opinions on if this would lose too much light? I have 0 worry of light leaks (room is already sealed) but I am afraid of lumen dispersement....i.e. losing output to my plants. I just know I can control temps (always an issue in a garage grow) better without the walls.
Any advice on how to modify my room is GREATLY appreciated...and really just want to hear if anyone else grows in an open area and how to compensate for lack of walls on every side.
Sorry so long winded.....just who I am...you should meet my 7 year old if you think I'm bad!!!
