I saw a jewelers loupe/magnifying glass on Amazon for $3. Is a jewelers loupe effective at looking at trich color? It is 60x and has a light.

Is it small and grey with two parts to it? I got a new one recently x60 time currency scope, was 3quid, is adjustable and has white and blue led lights, i will post a pic... I would recommend it to anyone without a microscope or jewellers loupe..

I like our $11 Radioshack hand-held self-lighting microscope....
and our USB microscope with camera (on Amazon for about $25)-- they are really cool because you can take photo's of you trichs/buds with them...

I have been using a little jewelers loop I bought at Radio Crack over 22 years ago when I got out of the Military on my way home from Fort Benning from where I was Honorably Discharged after serving 10 years in the Regiment.
Best nick nack type thing I have ever bought. I know there are bigger and better things to use, but this has served me well.
A BETTER question would be: What is the best bang for a buck that I can get quickly on a scope or lense to view my trichs?
Help me out....LMK

60X is too strong unless the lens is large as a quarter. Smaller than that and you get a real tiny field of vision. Amateurs should start with a 30X 'scope that is rigid, without a focus dial. It really requires experience to work a focus wheel while balancing a tiny piece of leaf. Here is the biggest secret to getting stable views of tris at 30X -- take a small piece of sugar leaf from a bud and place it face up on the back of your left hand. Hold the 'scope in your right hand and let the bottom of the 'scope rest right next to your sample. Looking thru the 'scope, tilt the 'scope back and forth until your sample is focused. Basically, the sample and 'scope are both setting on the back of your hand while you tilt the 'scope for focus. Works for me, BigSteve.

Trust me - those are nowhere near 60X. I have a few of them and they are good for checking trichs but do not believe the print on them. they are more like 25X and someone in chinese marketing is trying to make them look better than what they are.

They may not be 60, but they are more than 25. I paid less than 3 dollars for mine on amazon, and it works perfectly. I don't pull leaf off the plant to check, I just hold the scope right up to the bud and instead of moving the lens in and out to focus, I just back away until in focus. It is more than enough power to see trichomes easily. Everybody who has checked out mine has ordered one for themselves.l
