Can anyone tell me the "light spectrum" needed by plants for the veg/floweringstages?? LED lights allow one to single out those and I would love to utalize that.

Sounds like this is your first grow, LED lights are measured in nanometers you want 420 blue and 660 red. 25% blue and 75% red will give your plant everything it needs.

When it comes to floros or hid then it is measured in Kelvin, 3000K is like the 660nm leds produce, 6500K is like the 420nm leds produce. but many more colors combined to make light we can see.

It really doesn't matter, if this is your first grow and you going small, get a 250 HPS. That will veg and flower a couple small plants better then LED's would.

Larger grow? Go 400w get ballast that runs both MH and HPS
trick to producing a decent crop indoors isn't necessarily the light. Its all about exposure and penetration of the light. bend your plants sideways so the shoots get more light = more bud.

SCROG is what gets the buds. (using a screen) that's the only way you will get a harvest that's worth growing with leds.

good luck

Def. man My thread has pics of me accidentally growing five identical plants under 420nm actinics and the same wattage of 6500k. The actinic for veging is amazing. if you go white spectrum go high like 18000k for veg. Def flower with mixed spectrum. Sorry i grew five under each light it was supposed to say.

And it was supposed to say that the actinics outgrew by far the 6500k. i had to switch them to even them out but the others couldn't catch up. This all in 48 hours.

Get a small HPS light for the whole life cycle of the plant... i spend a lot on my vegetation room and found they grow much more faster in my flower room under the 1000w HPS....

actually man white really isnt that great for veg. get bulbs in the 18000k range up to 460 nm. these will outperform 6500K all day. for flower you could mix several warm colours even into the red spectrum. for the first time this grow i mixed many colours into my lighting and have had quicker growth for sure than previous grows. but i still focused on the blues for veg and the ambers for flower. it worked out well. as for leds if you build your own i have found that Luxeon K2 leds are the highest uotput and come in a large selection of colours. And the mini reflectors are amazing. def check out the new k2 leds. and leds are to measured in kelvin rating also. The reason you see nm is just because most led grow lights are red and purple hues. they make 2700K and all the rest. in kelvin. sounds cool man. Also you can get aquarium led fixtures that range from 18000k to 2700k in the same fixture. but expensive.
