Advice for a virgin :-)

Hi All,

I have decided to lose my virginity and dive into the world of growing.
My gear is as follows :

  • A 1 metre grow tent
  • 1 * 400w grow light (star ballast, grolux lamp and reflector)
  • 1 carbon filter + fan

Starter pack consisting of :

  • 1 X 50L BAG OF CANNA PROFESSIONAL PLUS SOIL

  • 1 X 1L TERRA VEGA NUTRIENT

  • 1 X 1L TERRA FLORES NUTRIENT

  • 1 X 250ML PK13-14

  • 4 X 11L POTS

Because I'm a virgin I decided to try growing 4 * AK47 autos as I have been informed they are not too difficult.

Now I just don't know where to start. For example I dont know when to water these, how much light and how much in the way of nutrients to give them.

Any advice is welcome as I am dying to lose my cherry.

Thanks in Advance:weed:

Welcome and good luck on your grow!

Start a journal and post a link so folks can follow and offer advice.

Im on my first grow in a tent as well with a 400 watt. Does your soil have nutrients already in it? If so you dont need to feed for 2-3 weeks minimum usually. Seedlings depending on the size of your containers need little water. water them till u have runoff when u do water, and then get a feel for the weight of your pots.. and dont water again till they are light. they will do better for the first week or two under just some cfl or flourescent lighting. Be sure you have good air in and out of your tent.. fans... and a way to test and monitor the ph of your water and nute mix. Temp humidity monitor as well.

Dig thru these forums.. theres a million places to find answers.. check out my first journal in my tent for example hehe..

Grow on and best of luck!

Well they are autoflowering so i would suggest a lighting schedule of anything from 18/6 to 24/0. There is much debate over the best light period given of an autoflower but it is widely agreed that 20/4 is a good schedule. Also, I advise you plant in a pot suitable for the entire grow, avoid transplanting as an autoflower as they shock will stunt its growth which is an issue with an autoflowering plant as its growth period is very limited. In terms of water, I give mine water whenever it looks like it needs it, no real cycle. Stick you finger in the pot, if it is quite dry 2 inches in, then give it a nice water. You can also see from the way the plant stands if it needs more water i.e. drooping ect. For nutrients, I gave my autoflower 2 weeks of plain water. At 2 weeks old I gave it a full dose of nutrients( BioBizz 5ml per litre). however, for week 2-3, i gave it 2.5ml of BioBiz grow and 2.5ml of Biobizz bloom. After week 3 I gave it only BioBizz bloom.

Hope that helped, ask anything you want, I love my AutoFlowers :)

Thanks guys

How should I germinate these?
Should I just put the seeds straight in the soil?

You also mentioned good circulation. I only have an extractor so should I get another fan? Can you recommend one?

That's what I would advise (because I get 100% germination rate), but others prefer the paper towel method:

1. Get a plate
2. Moisten a paper towel and place it on the plate
3. Place your seeds on the moist paper tower
4. Place another piece of paper towel on your seeds
5. Moisten the entire setup (NOT WET)
6. Cover it with a bowl or something to prevent exposure of seeds to light
7. WAIT PATIENTLY (12h, 24h, 36h checks to see if the seed cracked and the root popped out)
8. When the root is around half and inch to an inch long, plant it into your soil
- Poke a hole into your soil, about half an inch to a quarter inch deep
- Plant your seed root down (GENTLY)
- Cover it up and water it lightly
-WAIT PATIENTLY until it sprouts

The key here is PATIENCE. Hope it helped.

I still prefer the planting straight into soil method though lol You can experiment on your own

The "paper towel" method has a major drawback!
The little white tap root that pops out of the seed case has microscopic "hairs", that can be damaged. The seeds are best planted directly into the soil and GO from there.
Good luck & good grow.......BB

Nice another fellow "natural method" follower.. Yes. Those root hairs can get damaged during transplanting. Both ways work but why risk possible root damage on your delicate plant? Stress at an earlier stage of growth has more significant effects later on in the plant's life (if it even ends up having one :D).
