i have a 400 and i wanted to add more light its a 4x4 grow space what do you think?
Shit I would base it on what your exhaust can handle with your temps. If it can handle some more hps then hell yea. If not cfls are good for the sides of your plant while putting off almost no heat.

Depends on your ventilation and how many plants your growing in the space, how big they are going to get, etc. Adding another HID only makes sense if it will allow you to grow enough addiitonal plants (or larger plants) to make the extra harvest worth the extra expense for lighting. Honestly, if your going to go to the expense of another HID what I suggest you do is set up two seperate grow areas with one light in each of them-use the first for vegging and the second for flowering and you can set yourself up on a perpetual grow system where you harvest a few plants every week or two. The way mine is set up I harvest two plants every other week and just rotate plants out of the veg room into flowering to replace the two I just harvested. You'll have to get set up to do your own clones so that you can always take a few cutting about a week before you need them to replace vegging plants, but thats cheap to set up and run.

Now, if your just growing a small number of plants and don't have the space to do seperate grows I'd suggest you just get some cfl's or T5/T8 flourescents to supplement your HID. As small as your grow area is adding another HID is going to create heat problems that the CFL's/T5's won't, and it's not worth that sort of hassle if all you need is supplementary lighting.
