AC, Mini-split, many ?'s

fist time poster, long time creeper. thanks to all who have posted before me, it has got me this far.

Im looking to do some upgrades to the room. First thing, I'd like to take the noisy window unit out of the wall and replace it with something more effective. Now I know enough to know that a mini-split is the way to go, and I know if i wanted one of the best in the industry I should go with the Mitsubishi Mr. Slim.

But I have just come to realize that purchasing a mini split air condition system is not as simple as spending the money and hooking it up. damn.

For example if I want to buy a Mitsubishi Mr. Slim, I cannot just go to any store buy one and hook it up, the first problem is the companies don't distribute these systems to stores like home depot, instead they sell them through contractors and licensed air conditioner installers or HVAC guys. Another issue is if you do find one of these systems online or maybe from a street dealer the chances are that there will be no warranty with the product, or you at least have to show proof that a HVAC specialist hooked up your system in order to get the warranty. Now if i could find a Mitsubishi Mr. Slim and if I could get my hands on whatever tools it requires to hook up im sure i could do it myself, but it seems there would be no chance that I'd get the warranty in case something did go wrong.

So what is the best route to take with purchasing and installing a mini-split ac system?

Do you get the top quality Mitsubishi, and try to install yourself? or find a 420 friendly HVAC guy? (i dont really like the idea of having anyone over) is there a way to not void the warranty? Is it pretty easy to hook up?

And if all companies like Mitsubishi or Fujitsu, require HVAC guys, then what about an alternative like companies who advertise towards indoor gardeners.

companies like, excel air, or ideal air, another one i think is auro or something like that.

these systems can be bought easier online, and can sometimes be found at hydro stores, some of these systems advertise that they are 100% ready to hook up and run... with other systems you usually have to vacuum lines or do something with the charge of refrigerant but these systems advertise the lines already come set and all you have to do is connect them.. but even some of these systems say you void the warranty if you dont have a HVAC guy hook it up.

my ultimate question, for those of you that run mini splits, what did you end up doing to finally get the thing hooked up and running.. who did you talk to, what did you buy, who hooked it up, how long did it take to finally get everything settled and hooked up, where did you buy from, how about the electrical what did you have to do to hook the system up, how good is your system running.. just anything i would need to know that could help the process of me getting one. Im sure if you purchased one then you went through all of this already and i could use the advice.

thanks in advance!

ps - if it helps im trying to cool 6k lights, so probably around 24,000 btu or more

I bought a Toshiba 36,000 Btu unit through a friend of mine that does hvac for a living and have not been able to get him out hee after i installed it to pressure test vacuum it down and release the refrigerant. So i would advise to get one you don't need a hvac guy out to get it started installed mine 5 months ago still waiting to run it.
