i will be using a 36"Lx20"Wx64"H tent. i will be using one 4ft 54w t5 in each corner of the tent 24/7 for veg phase, and then for flowering i will add a 90w triband UFO ontop along with the 4 t5's in a 12hrs on/12hrs off sequence.
i will be running a 4" fan and carbon filter outside the tent hooked up to the tent through ac tubing, and a 6" clip on fan inside.

my goal is to start out with 12-16 seedlings and remove males as they develop to end up with hopefully 6 full grown plants. i want them to grow to be about 4ft or so tall at harvest time.

any advice for a first timer?
what would a minimum expected yield be for a grow like this?

Sounds like you know what your doing, But you could expect anywhere from 12 ounces to a pound, depending on a bunch of diifferent elements.

why all the the T5's and leds? why not just get ONE HID light and be done?? seems easyer and just well easyer and more effeicent i mean just that 90w Led is same price as a 600w Hps or how about a 400w?

also why are you growing from seed? your going to grow every harvest from seed?? that will add many weeks to each cycle and you will have to pull males why not just use clones?? you will save so much time and money by using clones....the only advantage to using seeds is, 1 your plants have a tap root and 2 you can find the plant with the best genitcs and use her for making clones but just to use seeds for every cycle seems like working agaisnt yourself.....If you live in a state thats hard to get clones then at the very least use feminized seeds dude.....

ok feminized seeds will be done. there really isnt any access to clones where im from.

also, are 5gal pots neccessary or can i grow a plant that big in a 3gal pot?
because in my tent there is enough room for 6 5gal pots, or about 8 3gal pots. what do you recommend?

as far as lighting, i was debating going with the setup i mentioned or a 400w mh/hps lamp. the only thing that worried me was about the heat the lamp is going to produce in the summer. especially in a tent thats only 36"Lx20"Wx5'4"H.

I think footclan was asking you if you planned on actually growing from seed every time. I would clone them too. The 400w wouldnt be bad if you made sure you had it vented outside of the tent to make ambient stay lower. A five gallon pale can grow a plant thats the size of small tree. I grow 3 foot tall plants in delta 4" cubes. They are 4" x 4" x 4" and they support the plant just fine. Are you going hydro or soil? The nice part if you grow in 5 gallon buckets for hyrdro is nice because you can go a whole week during flowering and not need to fill the bucket but with the 3 gallon, you have to fill it like every 3 days... not so much fun lol The light is going to be your biggest concern. I think those LEDs right now, are too much money for the same thing you get from a HPS. Thats my two cents. I have seen a side by side grow with the LED and the HPS at my local grow store and the LEDs were impressive but it was like 1200 for the light they were using and the 600w HPS was like 400 haha

i will be using soil and i think i will be growing from seeds everytime. i will try a different set of seeds every new harvest.

can anyone recommend a good seed site? and a few good indoor strains with high potency and high yield? it would be a great help.

thanks.

you really dont want to do that. I have had a 20 seeds from a few good companies out there that have given me like 12 to 15 males out of a strain off the start up. Its really lame to have all but a few of yours expensive ass seeds not turn out to be females. Just look for some one who has a mother/clone setup in a closet and follow that. Its crazy easy. Also how much access do you have to garbage? If you need to go guerilla use coco because I heard you can plant like 3 times in it before its done. Otherwise I have played with DWC (the 5 gallon pale method) and its not bad but you have to keep they really short when you push to flowering because otherwise you get a tree and in your situation, I would just start flowering when they have pistils and are like a foot and you can rock like 6 for sure that little space. I would just use some nets/trellis system in there and then trim anything below your canopy to get some airflow.

Ill send you a pm with the sites I have used.

Diesels (bomb ass strain)
AK47 (Heavy yelid)
8 Mile High (good SoG)

why run the fan outside the tent? it would be more effective and efficient if you put it inside the tent. also your minimum expected would be nothing. good luck.

i would deff use good seeds, buy from here or any reputable seed company, i got some real good ones after a year of growing with seeds i pulled out of some real good commercial. budding time went way down because its not field weed, um, good way to look at it is i went from field corn to sweet, sweet corn! faster budding and stronger smoke.. I use cfl.. i have same issues of heat, and electric usage also. Make sure you have a good balance in the temp of the light bulbs for each stage.. 3k for budding and 5k for vegging.. have a token bulb of the offseason in there also for balance. (example: one 3k bulb with your vegging stage will help the plant grow out and not just up!). Good luck

Sounds like a good plan pitbullR6....I'm not gonna chirp in a "why don't you" kind of shit....do what you are doing and inevitably, you'll change what is needed as your grow goes on....I too grow from seeds although I do mostly autos....and I'm using a 36x20x64 tent also. I have my charcan inside ducted outside to an extractor fan and another fan ducting fresh air into the tent.
Your yeild will be according to a lot of factors including lumins available for fueling the little bud factories you hope develops.......I am currently growing 3 diesel ryders, 1 lemon skunk, 1 lowlife that about 2 weeks from finish and two NL autos that are just getting started. At some point, you're gonna fill up usable space in your tent.....I have a larger growroom with 1000whps to finish those that get too big for their britches.....
Good luck and just follow basic growing....you'll be fine. Grow some patience so you can actually leave'em along for days at a time while the roots search and provide stability for upward mobility!

i was just planning to put the carbon filter and fan outside because of limited space inside the tent, but im sure things will change as i start buying supplies. i was going to buy everything together, but i think now ill just buy what is needed at the time and slowly accumulate.

first would be getting the tent by itself and setting it up in the closet to see how it fits, then probably the filter and fan to plumb it, and then lights.

i still dont really know where im headed with lights yet. its an easy choice to get a 400w mh/hps lamp since they are cheap and can be used for veg and flowering, but im just worried about the heat. i used to have reef tanks and ran mh lighting above them and temp was always something to be careful of.

also, are carbon filters supposed to be ran 24/7? or only certain times of the day for a certain duration (ex. only when lights r on.)?

and is the fan loud?

first off the carbon filter is suppose to go in the tent because it needs to suck up the smell of the weed. Second, mount it high up at the top of the tent to one of the rails. That way you will pull hot air thats at the top of your tent out. I would always keep this one on because it is your sent control plus temp control for the tent. On the intake part of the tent just use a cheap little air filter because if you keep your fan on it should keep a good amount of negative pressure in the tent. The fan can be mounted on the outside of the tent and have it pull the air outside of the tent. Second if you choose to use a HPS/MH vent it outside of the tent. It will keep your temps lower. You would just have the dryer tubing run off of each side of the lights reflector and then use the nice silver/metal looking duct tape to seal up the tubing and put it around the edge of the glass on the reflector to make sure that its air tight. The ends of the hose should mount outside and you can use a fan to pull air thru this and it will cool your light for you. Also you can just hook the filter to a piece of dryer hose and then put it on one side of your reflector and then still mount the filter up high. Then run the other end of dryer hose outside to the fan. That would be the most budget minded way. If you have questions PM me or just search around. I am sure someone has pictures on here on what I mean.

is a 4inch inline fan loud? my place is the first floor of a 2 family and the closet the tent will be in is under the stairs they use to go to their apartment.

it really sucks cuz i have a ton more closet space but since it slopes down because of the stairs i can only use the first few feet for a tent since its tall.

That sounds like a standard grow closet just make sure your plants get proper ventilation, oh yeah and better off then white walls or tin foil go ahead and by some mylar its better and doesn't make annoying noises when you crinkle it proven more reflective

will it be load? oh yes you better believe it will be load.......it will be hella load bro....i use a 8" fan and without it being contected to my 4foot silencer(yes thats right 4 FEET LOL) it sounds as load as a jet plane takin off in my apartment... I use a 4foot silencer on the back side of my fan and front side i connect ducting to light then more duting to carbon filter..with all that its decreases the sound by ALOT i mean alot bro i cant hear it in my living room while the tv is on .....but if i where to take off the carbon filter and silncer it would be way to loud.... anything you connect to the fan will help with noise so if your fan is open on ether end just know it will be load if the fan is connected to eather ducking or filter or silncer it will decrease in noise.....

Ummm, I wouldn't bother growing them to 4 feet as those fluorescent bulbs have next to no penetrating power. Just get a nice 400 and air cooled hood. You'll put less heat in the tent then just running t5's in the tent.

LMAO...yeah, your fan will be load... but will it be loud? You don't need an 8" fan unless your going to buy a nice 8" booster fan like the hydrofarm one. Not that loud and good flow. Enough for a tent.

yes i would agree in most cases... I only run an 8"fan in that setup because its a 1000w bulb and im cooling/scrubbing and passively intaking all with one fan.

I picked One big fan over two smaller because i found it easyer to contain the noise using one big fan and a speed controller verse two smaller fans(1 dedicated for light & 1 for exhaust). My Grow is completely stealth in a 2 bedroom apartment... My other grow is at a house and noise is not an issue....for this reason i choose to run a dedicated 6"fan soley for cooling the light(during summer only). Then a 4"fan soley for scrubbing and exhausting the room(all year)...By using two fans im able to control the exact amount of fresh air i let in and old air I scrub out. This also allows me to use Co2 and thermistats and other automatic control deivces that i cant use in my "stealth" grow due to the fact that i must constantly scrub old air out whenever the light is on....

In my stealth grow I utilize the entire spare bedroom containing everything grow related inside...I cover all walls with sound damping material and put down carpets and moving blankets...I then built a shallow 3" deep wooden box made to fit inside the window frame of the spare bedroom window....The inside of the box(side facing the window) was painted the same color as the room. I then mounted blinds to the inside of the box....I used bambo blinds because it allowed me to mask everything behind it and still let all the air out freely.....I cut a 6" hole in the back of the box near where the window opens so i only had to open the window 6 inches. I then mounted a 6" flange to the hole on the back of the box and ran a 4ft silencer directly from the flange to the 8" fan. The fan is mounted just outside tent but the lip of the fan is INSIDE the tent...I then run Insulted ducking(for added sound dampining)to my 6"aircooled hood with an Insulated Heat shield reflective jacket for added cooling and some sound damping too(not much but some). I Then drapped moving blankets down over the box, cutting the material around the 6" flange as to allow it to lay down flush with the wall..This box is Only 3 inches deep because i used 3" by 1" boards to make one square frame and then cut a very thin piece of partuckle like board for the backing. I used weather tape to seal the gap between the wooden box frame and the inside of the wooden window frame. This keeps exhauted air from creeping back into the room once its been exhausted into the box..it also helps to stop scuffs in the the paint after all this is an apartment and they do have deposts.

From the outside (daytime) all you see is a bedroom window with the lights appearing to be off... In the night time Its just dark and you cant really see anything..This box is light proof no matter how bright inside, it always looks like the lights are off 24/7 from the outside....

I purposesly picked an apartment unit that was on the edge of the property line, I made sure that the spare room was to have a window facing the edge of the lot as not to be in a place where any walking paths or areas or travel would be(no paths no roads no nothing). In my case there is a fence and then a creek. I made sure it was a top floor unit so any hot stinky exhausted air would be let out at its highest point to avoid dedication from other tents and staff..This also helped alot with smell aswell... I could have used the whole room for canopy and put in more lights and fans but i wanted something that was crazy stealthy And i also wanted room to take care of my lady's weather it be watering cleaing trimming all contained in one room.. I wanted to be cheap to run and have good yeilds..When i say cheap i mean effiecent over a long period of time...

This is the most Stealthy cost effective good yielding grow i have every put togeather thus far.... With a 4x4 space and 1 light, 1 fan and zero detection.. Im able to yeild on my last cycle 1.5 lbs in a 3 month cycle... And im track to improve that number... I have had maintaince over many times to fix things unrelated to the spare bedroom and they have never suspected a thing.. Anyting needing to be fixed inside that room is eather fixed by me or not fixed(baring somthing hazardus of course) ive had cable guy here many times too....
