OK ladies, for vegging 10 plants would 6 4ft 40 watt T-12 6500k bulbs do well?, or would having 3 4000k and 3 6500k be a better option? I was reading around town and it seems like quite a few mix their bulb spectrum. Also is 220w enough for 10 girls for vegging. How is the heat with 600w HPS I was just planning on keeping them a foot above with a fan, no exhaust. Whats the best grow dimensions for a 600w? I am sure that 600w is enough for 10 plants...?

Thanks :weed:

I would prefer an 8 bulb X 4 foot long T-12 to a six bulb one. Since you are only vegging with the fluorescents use 6500K bulbs. The heat from a 600 watt HPS is a lot more than the fluorescents are. Hold your hand on top of your tallest plant with the HPS light on and if feels ok to your hand, the distance is Okay. If it feels hot to your hand, move the light up until it feels ok. A 600 watt HPS lights a 6FT x 6FT growing area. Good luck with your grow. :bigjoint:

Well actually I was looking at utility lights that support 2 bulbs per unit so I would have a total of 3 of them to equal 6 bulbs, you think I should have 4 to equal 8 bulbs?, and I know how far I need to keep it to the plants I was referring to how hot the 600W hps gets do I need an exhaust on the reflector or will a fan do just fine?

Im so dope,

The 6 light fluorescent configurations you mentioned should work fine. I thought you were buying a single fixture. They come in 2, 4, 6, and 8 tube versions. I would suggest air cooling the HPS fixture if you can. It keeps the bulb cool which extends the life of the bulb AND it lets you get the light much closer to the plants, which increases light penetration. BUT, you can just aim a FAN right at the bulb from below. Not as good but it will work in a pinch. :weed:

Thanks, so would I need just an inline fan blowing directly on the bulbs from the side vent that comes precut, or should I exhaust the heat out via a conduit/tube or can I just mount it directly on the reflector? Also many inline fans I find are so loud I am looking for silence any suggestions?
