how far away from the plants should i put a 600w hps with cool tube??

You can get it within 12" and probably closer. Put your hand under the light and if it does not burn your hand it should not burn the plants. But this is dependant on airflow, etc...

Put the light as close to your plants as possible without transferring heat from the bulb to your plants. Depending on your hood, that is probably 12-18".

I usually have my light from 8 to 16 inches away from the plants. Do the hand test and you should be fine!

Depends on the CFM of the fan and the temp of the cool air coming in. Will do you no good having a cool tube with a PC fan sucking air from the grow room. If you had a 500CFM fan sucking in cold air, you could put the light 2-3 inches away from the canopy.
