$60 cfl grow box recycled stuff

Chaeck this setup out. It's made of wood from a dumped dresser. Screws, nails and tape were around the house. Only bought the bulbs: four 27w6500k phillips cfl's and two GE 45w 6500k.

This first one is the grow space. Notice plants are approx. 6 in. from the ground, 2 inches from lights.


These two are 6 days old... just added the two 45 watters today, they'll probably start growing faster????



and finally the 4 day old one (green pot.. it just germinated later, but was planted the same day as the previous two... i'm counting since the day they saw the light).


The ones in the white plastic pots were planted yesterday after three days of germination and showing the little white root.

So even though i started a week ago, the setup shown here is from today. I'm mostly playing by ear here, and i'll probably get a thermometer, higrometer and ph thingy within the next weeek.

Medium is fertilized soil and some organic fert. Will feed with some 20-20-20 orchid nutes i have -all i could find-.

Box is semi open in a balcony so temps are fairly nice... planning on 16-8 vegging for 5 weeks and if I make it into flowering will most probably duplicate this CFL setup but with 2700k 27 watters.

Last time i got three weeks into vegging but was very lousy. Hope this time will go better.

Nice little setup your soil looks kind of dry but that might be just the surface. good luck with your grow

Looks like he just gave them a taste of water, to my eyes.

You have a lot of lights there. I've seen 2 dozen plants that size growing strong with half that much light. Watch your tips, CFLs can burn uhm.

Off the top of my head that is ...almost 10k lumens? Hes fine.

By the way ggvccs CLEAR POTS are BAD... Get rid of them, your roots do NOT like light. They will wither and die.

THX!!!! The soil looks dry but underneath it's actually moist. Got the clear pots duct taped. The total lumens is almost 10,000 alright. Thanx for the input!!!!!!!!! Will post a week from now to show a weeks progress... daily update is just too much for me.

Morning of 4th day of the setup. I'll let the pics do the talking. No nutes yet. All I have here is 20-20-20 orchid fertilizer... will this be fine? Instructions say "1 teaspoon or 3 grs. of fertilizer per litre"

These are the first two germed @ the beginning of day 8 (since they sprouted off the ground)


The three in the clear pots sprouted yesterday morning and the one in green is 6 days since it first saw the light

THat looks great, I"ve been looking at getting a CFL grow going my self....just got some lowryder #1 from attitude so we'll see how it goes. Very cool man, if they grow out ok your cost per ounce is going to be next to nothing.
