6 x Cob Vero 29 SE C bin 3000K 90cri array - How to wire?

Hi Everyone.

My grow space is 3'x2'4.5'(h) : 90x60x135

I was offered this equipment (for a price) as what I'd ordered wasn't in stock. I was going to wire it using one of Growmou5's videos, but the kit came with two drivers and that's a "help required" situation.

1 x ZPE 250-1400
1 x ZPE 400-1400

I'll be using 240v.

I have 5 x Wago's.

Could someone please:

1) Give me a schematic as to how I should wire this thing.

2) Aside from missing a dimmer (I have a variable speed fan controller coming), will I be able to dim the lights when completed? Not me Will my equipment allow it?

3) What can I add to protect it when using it? I've read about a resister or something (I'm that naive about electronics) that will burnout to protect the equipment. What is that?

4) How many plants would be best for the challenge of yield per plant? I was thinking three.

5) I made two frames each 90x13.5 (3'x5.5") and I've placed the heat-sinks as per the photo. I intend to place the drivers on the outside of the tent. This way I can raise and lower the two frames if needed. I have a filter and fan which will be outside the tent.



6) Would I dim the lights for sprouting seeds? How low can those lights be without harming seedlings?

7) Will the Gods be pleased?

Use 23W spiral CFL for germinating seeds.
It is a strange driver combo. I would simply have used 2 240W 54 Adjustable drivers with 3 of those COBs on each. You can set the voltage and current with two little knobs on the drivers if you take the right model.

What are you planning to use to dim them?

Thanks. Could I just confirm with you that I should have been offered a better driver choice? What's so unusual about that combo please? How does that affect the lights performance?

Seems power wise all 6 cobs would fit on the 400w driver but I cant find the data sheet for the voltage.
Did you buy this from cutter.au?

Edit, sorry I was looking at the 36v vero. Yours are the 69.4Vf ones. In which case 4 cobs in series for the 400 driver and 2 cobs in series for the 250.

Nothing that weird about the set up. Does the job. Its a hell of a lot of light for the space.

I'd rather not say where I got it. The offer was genuine, and the price difference seemed fair to a novice, as I am.

So everything in series. That's good. I can do series.

So if it's a lot of light for the space, then expanding is easier. I like that. Can I dim it?

If you got it from someone on here then no shame in saying so. But fair enough. If it were from cutter you could just ask them on here. If not then no worries.

Looking at the drivers you need to solder a pot on to the wires which are next to the power cable(to dim). I don't remember the right ones so go check growmau5s vids on drivers and dimmers. They cost a few dollars and its simple enough.

Thanks for the advice. I was just wanting assurance I haven't completely stuffed up. I feel good about this deal.

So I'm looking for a pot. I'll go back through some Gorwmau5 vids. The good news is I can dim. Excellent.

No worries.
You can light up a grow with 36w-50w per square foot, which for you is 300w, your light at full power will be nearly twice that so get that dimming sorted or only turn on the big driver until you do.
(assuming your vero are 69.4Vf, if they were 36v there would be no need for the 2nd driver)

Wow. So I can run the 6 cobs on the small driver alone? This is one of my Vero's (30G10K0C7).

No you cant. Its about matching the capabilities of the drivers with the forward voltage of the cob. In the case of what you have it has a forward voltage of 69.4. The small driver you have can only run between 107v-179v and up to 250w so you can only run 2 cobs on that. The big driver has a voltage range of 171-286 and 4 of those vero add up to 277.6Vf which is in range of the drivers capabilities.

So what you can do is dim both down to give the amount of wattage or light you want in your area. Or if you have to use the light before you have a pot to dim then just plug in the 400w driver running 4 of your cobs until you wire your pot.

I'm not saying you cant run it full blast in your area, I just think it would be too much and apart from light burn its a waste of electricity.

Your set up is sound, it allows you to go up to a 3x3 area or even a 4x4 area should you want to expand later on.
For now, just dim them down. It amazing what 36w per square foot of cob can do.

I might change my frames to have two cobs in one frame and then two frames of 2 x cobs. I could then re-instate the partition and use 2 x cobs in one area to see and veg, and 2 frames each with 2x cobs in the main 60mm x 60mm area growing area. Secret Jardin L90.

One more question...

I realise that I don't actually have a dimmer yet. Would something like this do the job?
