6 weeks old plant in closet grow - small size is unbelievable

Hi guys I'm been growing this plant from a bagseed for the past 6 weeks and the slow speed of growth is pretty unbelievable - take a look at the photos. I've been growing in high quality soil in a 3-gallon pot under a 2 x 55w T5 flo ballast. Its been on an 18/6 lighting schedule during the entire time and the lights are really close to the top of the plant, maybe only 3" away. I also water every 4-5 days and have started the plants on FF Grow Big nutes for the past 3 weeks. I give it about 2/3 quart of water (about 1/6 of a gallon) every time I water. Lastly, air circulation and humidity shouldn't be a problem as I have a fan going on for 18 hrs a day as well as a dehumidifier in the closet.

I've noticed nothing really wrong with the plant itself, it seems fairly healthy but the problem is just how slow the growth has been. Does anyone have any info on why this is happening and how I can speed up growth? Am I giving it too little water? Any help would be great, thanks!

Had the same thing happen to a Greenhouse Church seed. Waited 2 months nothing else happened.

Mine happened when it rained like hell on the plant bashing it around and leaving it at the same size while others where 2-3 feet.

IMHO kill it and start over :/

Thx for the reply man! I didn't say this in the original post but my plant is growing each day that's for sure so it's definitely alive and growing. I see new leaves developing all the time and the main stem is getting beefier by the day. Its just that the SPEED of growth is so slow it makes me want to scream. :fire: I wonder if this has happened to anyone else and what they did.

Hey Fuckit nice observation but that's not the rootball. The soil contains all these stringy root things that look like the plant's roots but they are just part of what came in the soil.

I didn't even notice that, I was going to say drop your lights lower I have mine almost touching the plant, just touch the tops to see if it's to hot otherwise the plant looks healthy,

Thanks Pcmicro for your thoughts - I don't think this is an autoflowering strain or anything like that. I just grew a seed that my buddy found in his stash and gave to me. It's definitely from some dank bud (my buddy said he didn't remember what strain it came from but he thinks it could be trainwreck since he smokes that a lot). I've just ordered some seeds from Nirvana but I don't want to give up on this one if possible - I already put so much love into it!

Thanks swazifarmer! I just lowered the lights about another inch so the lights are just about on top of the plant. Hopefully this speeds things up a bit.

Also, how much do you guys water your plants? Does it depend on pot size or is it more about the size/age of the plant? Like I said I water every 4-5 days with about 1/6th gallon of water each time. Should I use more water? I've been really careful about watering since everyone says overwatering is your biggest enemy but maybe I'm overdoing it?

More water is not the answer.

what kind of fluoro are you using? is it a high output T5, or what? What's the color temperature of the bulb? Cool, warm?

i do agree they are looking a lil small. just give them a lil time.

the bud which the seeds were taken from might not have been fully matured thats why ur seeds are taken so long

Yeah, I'm using a high output T5.... double 2' bulbs, 55w each. The light is definitely warm when you get up close but I wouldn't say hot. I've had the lights about 3" from the plant and no sign of heat stress or anything. I just lowered the lights a tiny bit more so the plant is now 1-2" away from the top leaves.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do have a small 6" fan in the closet so I don't think heat is an issue for now. The light is now about 2" from the plants.

Also, I added more soil to the pot and covered up about 1" of the stalk that you saw in those first photos. I hope this helps as well.

T5s are cool enough (if they have a lens over the bulb) that you can literally put them right on top of your plants without burning them. I keep mine less than half an inch from the tops of my plants. Only pain is you have to constantly raise the lights, but it's okay if the plant grows into them somewhat.

EDIT: you never mentioned what the color temperature of the bulb is? warm white? cool white? if it's the wrong kind of light the plants won't grow as well. You want "cool" for vegging and "warm" for flowering.

I use an Aquarium and cool white I don't allow my plants to touch the aquarium. But the two give a nice variation of light for vegging and flowering.

Some seeds grow slower than others I would try some new seed as even if you try to clone these plants they will grow slow too...IMO Germ alot of seeds keep the fastest growing ones and ditch the rest..... survival of the fitt..err fastest

these plants are less than a month
