I have a 5X5 tent and I'll be using 1000W MH/HPS for lighting. I use FFOF soil along with the FF nute trio. I have feminized Seedsman White Widows that I plan on vegging for 5 weeks.
How many plants would you grow?
What size pots would you use?
What strain would you choose in this space?
Thanks in advance for any input..

9 in 18l pots would be a good place to start. Do you have a plant count limitation?. Personaly I'd go for four in 22l pots but that means u gotta veg for longer so it pays to have a veg tent so you can simultaneously veg and flower.

After a lot of reading I was thinking 6 plants in 5 gallon buckets or maybe smart pots. that seems about in line with your suggestion of 9/18l.

If you are gonna veg for 5 weeks, you may only be able to fit 4 plants in 3-5 gallon pots. First time growers often overlook the fact that they are gonna stretch like crazy for the first 3 weeks of flower. It may seem like you have enough space while you are vegging, but sometimes you can have a crazy stretch 3-4 times the size of the plant before the switch.

I don't HAVE to veg for 5 weeks, but I can't veg any longer than 5 weeks if I want to get 2 grows in by May. Would I be better off vegging 4 weeks with 6 pots?

Any opinion on 5 gallon bucket vs. 5 gallon smart pot?

The smart pot will be bushier the bucket will grow taller in my opinion. What strain you growing?

More plants does not equal more ganja. You can train more and grow less plants. I have tried 12 in a 4x8 and it is just too tight regardless of keeping them short or not. You still want to be able to move them around, and they still need airflow between them. Try growing 4 fat ones and then next time, try growing 6 smaller ones. See which you like better. I am still not convinced with the Smart pots yet. I like the idea of them, but just not sure if they are worth the expense. I mean, these plants are only alive for 3 months, I really can't see the addition or benefit from them yet. They drink a lot faster, so that is a pain in the ass. Besides that, I didn't notice any major difference between them and the nursery pots of the same strain in the same tent.

I notice that plants in plastic cheapo pots tend to grow more vertical than the same plant in a smart pot. Yea they drink way more too cause more aeration.

I didn't think they were any bushier with the smarts, or any taller with the nursery pots (or designated mop buckets with holes for that matter). I tested them. Like I said, they just drank faster. The only difference. I am gonna run another test so rest assured, I will have a solid answer soon enough.

Thank you all for the replies.
Always great advice on this forum. I'm leaning towards growing 6 plants in nursery pots on a 30 day veg. For the second grow I will try 4 plants in 5 gal pots on a 38 day veg. I'll have a good idea of what to expect after the first grow. I'll post results. Thanks again.

Id go with 9 ladies in 5 gallon root pots. You can veg for 30 days and fill up your tent. I veg in a 5 by 5 and its actually a lot of space. Its almost double the space of a 4x4. Any unused space in your tent is a potential loss of yield.

I use 9 in my 4x4 flower area in 5 gallon smart pots. In my 5x5 I use 10 gallon smart pots but it is a vertical grow so its another story. I say anywhere from 9-12 in that area depending how that WW strain likes to blow up during flower.

I have a similar sized tent 5x5x8 is it okay to plant 7 plants in a 5 gallon pot? How far apart should I place the pots? I’m planning on purchasing either 2x 1000w LED lights, or 600w HPS.

I have a 5x5x8 and I’m currently running 6 photo periods in my tent in 5 gallon Warrior pots. It’s tight in there. I plan to go back to growing four plants because I like more space between the plants and I’m less concerned with quantity.

What’s the yield like I’m going to do a 5x5 with the light being a vipraspectra tc1350 I’ll probably plant 8-10 plants but I’m not sure if I should do it in 7 gallon pots or just stick to 5 also what size pots should I use for the seedlings phase?

Too short a veg for only four plants in a 5x5. I'd veg for at least eight weeks, several toppings and branch tie downs to spread out the canopy. I veg eight weeks before they go into a 4x4' with a 1kW HPS. The canopy is nice and spread out wall-to-wall.

I use 3 gallon plastic pots, filled with Sunshine #4 peat-based medium.
