I think you'd better be more worried about burning the building down than the electric cost.

5000 watts in a single bedroom in an apartment building? I'd be scared the wiring was old and possibly faulting.

most users here dont live where you do so their answers will probably not be correct

I ran 6kw plus and it fried the bars in the 60 amp breaker box...at 240vac. Check the panel in the apt. I had to completely alter the fuse panel and disconnect everything except a couple plug ins and lights for the place. You'll also need a couple of strings of 10/3 wiring and most likely an electrician.

When I first started growing seriously a few years back, I had an electrician add a 30 amp dedicated circuit. New wiring done by a professional. That gave me peace of mind. I run 600-watt HPS, 220-watt LED, fans, dehumidifier, portable air conditioner, etc. Most all of them at the same time. The last thing I wanted to do was have the fire department tip the cops off as to what they found when they came to put out a fire in my house.

If you;re on the alcan grid in the rockies of BC...$100 bucks a month for hydro. Toronto about $150 a month. This is moms and budders. A 25 plant perpetual grow without veg would cost about $500-$1000 to set up if you are a handy type person. Even less if you got some freinds in the biz that can loan you some equipment:) My 2' F&D table cost $100 without the light and I scrounged the res and the wood. I wouldn't hesitate to do as many as 16 freshly rooted clones in the 2' table using a 1000 watt hps.

Divide your wattage (5000) by 1000 to get your kilowatts (5 kw)

Then times by the number of hours in your billing cycle (720 hrs in 30 days)

kiloWatt-hour is then 3600

Average price around here is like 0.09 to 0.13 cents per kWh so times your kWh by your $/kWh to get $324 - $468 per month

Of course when you have your own price per kWh then just do 3600 x that number

Might be too many amps for the circuit too. Too bright of a light coming from your window. Lot of heat in the room. So you'd have to have a ventilation system in place that could cost another hundred or more a month to run. Mostly for stealth reasons I personally wouldn't run that many watts. Electric company could see that huge spike and tip off the cops.

I would suggest LED's with fluoro supplemental lighting, if your are going to be living there. Cost less... With LED technology advancement, you get what you pay for, but there is really inexpensive LED lights on amazon. I'd suggest shopping around online and find what lighting would suit you, then determine how much output it will require, then do the math. Goodluck man.

Don't forget tax's and state/local fees......5 lights - 1K with cooling, venting and fans....around 560+ per

My electric bill is increased $100 per month with my set-up. I run one 1000W HPS at 12/12 - one 400W MH bulb running 24/0 - and 2 100W bulbs for cloning, etc.

Good luck, BigSteve.
