So weird cant think of any bug that has a head that will just creepily turn to look at you. I had a mantis in garage wondering wtf its doing there for days.

So got curious and learned a little about them. I like learning about nature. Its finally gone, must of found what it was looking for lol. Would smoke next to it daily.

You should try releasing a hatched egg sack. They climb everywhere. They are more social with humans than other mantis.
There seemed to be a shortage of egg sacks this year, my regular supplier never got any.

Nope was a new one they last about one season. Unless you keep them inside with a perfect environment. But once they are established they will return.
Look about for egg sacks after frost or fall die back if not in a good place put in fridge till next spring. I had a height challenged mantis left her egg sacks on brush and metal support pole. So they were put in fridge and hatched in spring.

There friendly but not harmless sometimes they can damage buds by accident definitely better to have those around than pests tho for sure
