400w MH 6" from plant too close?

I know that most people say to place mh and hps bulbs about 18" away from plants but the temp is running around 88 with the 400w MH about 6" away from my seedlings. Is this alright? I dont want the plant to stretch at all is my reasoning. Oh and there is no sign of burn on the leaves whatsoever.

Lol that was stupid of me...sorry weed does that to me somtimes..
Well I'm running the same 400w/mh I have mine 1ft away because of heat and light intensity I have 5 plants under it so like that all plants get enough light?

6" aircooled should be ok, but totally unnecessary for seedlings. One foot would be fine.

I was just gonna say... seedlings, really? How many seedlings are you growing under the light and how big are they? Like are they fresh sprouts or a good few inches?

88 seems just a touch too hot to me, especially for small seedlings. They might be alright now, but they'll still grow up and you may be surprised how quickly... if the tops get too close it could still burn them and probably wont show until it is too late. At the very least if you're growing in soil\soil-less you are going to find yourself having to water more frequently.

I do seedlings and clones under a 4-tube T5 fluorescent fixture and can do at least 5 plants under it before they get too big (8-12 inches) to make it feasible, without any significant stretching.
