400w HPS Lamp Burn Out

Hey guys, I'm an experienced outdoor grower, this is my first sincere attempt at indoor growing so I'm a newb in that respect.

I purchased a Growlush 400w kit (lamp/ballast) with a cooltube about a year ago, tested it & everything was fine though I didn't have to room at the time to put it to use (everything has been in storage since). So a year later we're in a new place, setup a tent, ventilation etc... Yesterday on the first run the light worked fine in the afternoon, when it came to the morning cycle the lamp was burnt out. Less than maybe 6 hours total use (though 1 year in storage). I'll be replacing the bulb today but my main concern is there may be a recurring issue here(?). I assume Growlush are the cheapest on the market for Australians, I don't know if that's an issue but I'm not sure how to factor in anything else (ballast, the light it self & handling (moving), cheap timer, cooltube/lamp holder).

Any help would be appreciated (as always!).

is it a normal old skool magnetic ballast or is it a newer digital style ballast?? if it's a digital one, then i know that some of them can only run certain bulbs without burning them out as i've experienced this problem with my digital ballast..
if it's an older magnetic style ballast, several things could have gone wrong.. maybe like the above poster said, it could have gotten banged around in storage and transportation of it..
or maybe it just was an old bulb and it's life span was used up.. kinda hard to really know.. just make sure when you put the new one in, wear some gloves and don't touch the bulb with your bare hands.. some people say it doesn't matter, but i think it's important not to get any finger prints on the bulbs whatsoever .. also, make sure it's screwed in as tight as it will go.. don't over tighten it, but at the same time, you want to make sure it's properly seated in the socket..
you're already getting a new bulb. so do what i mentioned above, and keep a close eye on things for the first couple of days, and see how it works out from there.. don't really have too many other options..

It's a magnetic ballast, makes a bit of noise but I don't have any comparison to tell if it's excessive/problematic. The globe has probably been handled but only used for a few hours, I don't know if storage contributes to any degradation in the meantime.

But I'll pick up a new globe and see how it pans out. If there's any problems I guess I'll have to invest in some new equipment. Thanks.
