400w ballast repair? anyone

So I bought this 400w convertible ballast off of craigslist. I paid $30 plus abbq little bit of bud. It came with a bat wing type reflector and MH bulb.

When I first pluged it in, I could see the bulb berly trying to fire up the it would do anything and the ballast makes a very minor buzzing. After I let it sit for a bit I tried it again and It fired up. Ballast full blown regular buzz. 2 minutes later it shuts off and were back to square one? Where can I get parts?and how do I know which ones? (what do I look for on the cap. And ignitor?

Also I'd like to make it HPS only. Can and how do I do that?

They are reliable IME. not sure how to tell which one went bad. maybe someone else will come along with that info. But look around at online hydro shops, most of them will sell ballast kits and parts, find the best deal you can.

first thing to try is a known good bulb.

your bulb could either be bad or the wrong type.

throw up a pic of the set up including the nameplate info from the ballast.

A bad capacitor will usually be bulging at the top. Like its about to break open if it hasnt already.
