According to this article dispensaries are charging close to $400 an oz plus tax now, anyone seen this firsthand?


On the first day of legal weed sales, Gillette said she found retailers selling top-shelf marijuana to recreational users at prices close to $400 per ounce, not including taxes.

For comparison, medical marijuana users, who’ve been able to buy weed from Colorado dispensaries since 2010, are currently paying around $250 an ounce plus taxes, she said.

The state does not impose any pricing structure for pot purveyors, leaving the market open to supply and demand. One dispensary was selling high-quality marijuana on Wednesday at $70 for one-eighth of an ounce — a markup from $25 for the same amount the day before, according to The Associated Press.

it will adjust and true to capitalism, when it comes down to it..our beloved hippie friends gouge their customers like everyone else..it's actually pretty lame they're doing it as i thought we were better than that..

i sense and opportunity here if you know what i mean..what would it take for you to drive on over to one of those dispensaries and strike up a conversation with those in line all the while you have 1/8's in your pocket (no more than the legal oz) cut them a deal and then they start calling you as their "regular guy"..fucking scalpers do it all the time but you only see them once..here you can gain your own customers..damn i wished i lived there i would do exactly what i just suggested..hell, it may even be worth the drive to colorado:wink:

Growers generally do not like to expand, which would have been necessary to meet demand in your state.

Then when re-sellers catch wind of a shortage, up go prices b/c they know business will slow. And usually after that, the quality will go down due to limited availability of solidly grown organic etc.

My advice is always the same, grow your own...b/c legal or not you're still buying from street level dealers. You can wrap it in labeled canning jars and re-name it dispensary, but it's all the same bud in the end.

the problem is that it is still illegal to buy and sell on the street and now if you get caught for dealing they may be able to hit you for tax evasion.

Yes, prices are jumping but it should be limited to the recreational side of things as all the plants are required to be separate from clone to crop to sale, so there should not be a shortage for medical patients just avoid the rec shops for a while. If not call your buddy because in Colorado he can give you an ounce of quality herb, you can ask him a few questions about life as a consultant and he charges $150 per visit regardless of what the shops are doing as he still has the same supply and shrinking demand.
The only reason there is a price jump is a lack of recreational licenses and therefore shops, and thus only a few places to go and buy legal herb, in a shop, which everyone wants to do... so now the price is $400. As soon as more rec shops open and supply increases prices will fall, just like with the initial boom. Or a better solution grow your own like all of us and horde that shit lol.

Individual marijuana sales will be limited to one ounce per person with a Colorado identification. Users from out of state can only buy up to a quarter-ounce. Resale is prohibited.

In Washington they wanna slap on a total of 59.6% tax.... 25 % to the grower/processor.... 25 % to the retailer...plus our 9.6% sales tax

and thats why I have grown my own for 25 years

i still smell opportunity and other states to the rescue!!..personally, i can send ahead and fly out myself after run..it would be so fucking easy..even better, once out there make some connect and the connect is back in business with out-of-state..win/win:mrgreen

tax evasion? "you just started" so therefore you haven't filed a DBA:lol:

People, It's called supply and demand. As far as I'm aware, the MMJ prices or availability has not changed. Its the novelty of the rec that is causing such a strain on demand. I imagine after a time the local rec biz will die down some, and it'll be mostly tourists and they'll go back to selling the majority of their product to red card holders most of the year. Exceptions being tourist season, 4/20, 7/10, etc.

Also... The "Black Market" is still very much alive. $150-$200 oz quality local homegrown if you don't mind breaking the law.

And to the dude in Fla, I grew up in SWFL and lived in Orlando for a long time. The stuff you guys get for $300/oz is trash, 1/2 the time its stuff from Co, that would not sell here for $100/oz, hehe.

Not true. People claim to be "A64 compliant" but if you don't have a license to sell rec at retail, you are breaking the law. Chances are no one is gonna care, and people are claiming "donations", or selling crafts, or w/e other bullshit they think will help them in court.

I'm not sure what is more outrageous - the high prices - or the fact that you're told how much (little) you are allowed to buy or possess. I just moved from Oregon - so I can have a 1/4 oz - 2 days worth - whoopee! I can have 24 oz with my ommp card.
