4" Elicent inline-fan + Speedster Fan Control = Motor Hum. Any Solutions?

I bought a 4" Elicent inline-fan + Speedster Fan Control. The motor on its own is silent when plugged in. The only noise is the air being moved. When plugged into the Speedster, the motor hums louder than the air moving through the fan.

Has anyone found a solution for an Elicent Fan?

Putting it in a box, installing a muffler, etc.. is not a solution but a band aid for a problem that will shorten the life of the fan. I am not looking to shorten the life of an expensive investment.

i have a fan coming. It is a 10 incher. Lol, I am using it for my 600 and taking the six inch that is on my 600 right now and moving it to my 400.

A ten incher! Damn, That is nice, that will cool the 600 down to what the 6 incher does to the 400. I can let buds on the hood except for light bleaching.

I have the same problem. I need advice for the ten incher. I fixed the 6 incher by putting the fan in my tent instead of outside and the sound was muffled. I recently took it out and cut two holes in a cardboard box and put the fan inside. I wrapped it in cotton and packing peanuts. The cotton muffles it pretty well. Better than peanuts.

I have no idea how loud a ten incher is, I hope I am not fucked lol.

I would love some muffler ideas too. brainstorms . . .

I contacted the US importer (Continental Fan Manufacturing) who slaps their logo on the box. the part number is VSC3. it maybe hard to find since most Hydro Places that sell Elicent fans have no clue about any other type of controller other than the Speedster/similar.

The problem is the cheap fan controller. You need to replace it with a better one. I can't advise on product names as I am in the UK and our stuff tends to be different, but you want a variac-based controller, or one marked "no hum" etc. They are usually more expensive, but will cure this problem.
