Just wondering i´ve been hearing more and more about ppl finishing veg with 30hrs of darkness before starting flowering ?

What is your opinion of this ?

It gives the plant a definite signal to flower. Some say it works and some say it does not. It does make sense and plausible. I practice the ritual.

I heard from a reliable source that it can shave a few days off total harvest time, but at the expense of some yield, and with a slightly increased risk of a hermie response.

I wouldn't do it myself unless I was in a rush for the harvest.

EDIT:

Have not tried 36 hrs dark but did try 48 hrs from 18/6 veg. The final yield was down between 15 and 20% by var the pure sats the biggest loss in final weight and caused the odd herm, [sats] it did reduce the flowering time by 5 to 8 days.

it is an interesting theory/idea but actually it seemed the plants i tried it with actually took a little longer to show sex and finish. i only tried it once though so it could be something else that caused the other to take a few days more. dirtyboy, do you have any links to a good article on it? im gonna try it again this time i think and see if it was just a fluke or if i messed something up last time.(I cant think of any mistakes that woulda caused it though).actually, the more i think about it i think i know why it happened like that for me, they werent clones they were from seed so the growth rate just lagged behind a lil bit on the one that took longer. thx dirtyboy, you've re-opened my mind to the idea/possibility it actually is beneficial. I'll be trying it wth my clones that im gonna go to 12/12 in a week or 2 so this time i should get a answer thats from completely identical conditions.
