hi all, my 400w MH & HPS setup is too much for my fairly small closet and i need something to replace it.
instead of pissing about venting into the attic etc i've just spotted these 300w CFLs.

just spotted these, literally just need to hang them up & get some ventilation then its plug and grow. then its just a matter of waiting until you need to change the light timer and they'll start flowering... no hassles of bulb changes!

plus sides:
plug & grow (no ballast needed)
can do both veg & bloom with the same bulb just switch from 18/6 to 12/12 when you're ready to flower. (no hassle of swapping MH to HPS)
they run cool (so i can just hang a carbon filter & fan in the grow room and duct it to escape out of a hole in closet door, no need to go in the attic)

down sides:
thats where you come in guys... i know my yeilds will be nowhere near as great as if i used a 400w or even 250w MH & HPS. But i don't really care at this stage, besides that all looks promising to me!

any help would be fab. (p.s its its a fairly small closet housing a wilma 4 pot hydro system)

With CFL's more are always better. IMHO. Their light imprint is such that if used like a HPS they do not penetrate far enough. That is unless far enough happens to be 4 inches or less from all/most of your major budsites.

I like using a mixture of bulbs myself. Use 23w, 45w and 65w (real wattage). Doubt I'd want to go smaller or bigger than that. Thinking about rigging up some 56w T5 tubes clipped to the corners of my small grow tent.

In your case with a good reflector and some common sense you should be just fine. Sounds like you don't have much more room for more bulbs anyway.
