I was thinking about making 3 growing levels in my cabinet, a clone/veg self using CFLs and t5s (1.5ft), month 1 of flower shelf using CFLs (2.5ft) and a 2nd month of flower self using HPS (5ft).
On the first shelf I'm going to be using a clone tray for the most part and the plants are basically only going to sit in this room until the plants in the last shelf finish, then they will be pushed basically from 1month old clones to the 2nd shelf. In the 2nd shelf i need a low profile system, so i was thinking that i would just continue to use the passive cat litter pans, then on the 3rd shelf id put the Aeroponics system.
This probably sounds crazy, but hear me out. its a safe guard in case a pump brakes and i fail to check the plants for a day or 2.
Now my question is this, in the passive system, what medium should i use? It will need to be easily washed away from the plants and then placed into the net pots. I was thinking of just using 4L milk jugs for each plant, with small holes to drain out into the cat litter pan. This way the roots don't grow together. I would use perlite and then just gently shake the plants and rinse in water prior to transferring to the net pots. What do you guys think?
