250w or 400w MH/HPS for a GrowLab 60? (heat issues?)

hey there,

I'm looking at buying some new lights for my stuff. Right now I have a 250w MH hanging in there on a home made reflector that I've been using for both veg and flower. I found the Sunburst 400W MH.HPS Convertible Enclosed Grow Light (and its 250w model) and was wondering if anyone has ever put one of these in a GL60? The GL60 is 24"x24"x60"

Does anyone know the heat difference between a 250w and 400w system?

yeah unfortunately no one seems to know. I'm thinking I'll have to spend the money and find out myself. I'd like to just buy that Sunburst enclosed system, but may have to shell out the $$$ for a separate ballast & air cooled reflector. I found a ballast that is switchable, meaning it will do both 250w and 400w MH/HPS

I think you should go with the 250. I think the 400 will be too much. I currently run a 250 HPS in a 2x4x5 tent and it works great. My temps stay between 70-78. This is with a cooltube and a 4" sunleaves windtunel. I could use a 400 but my temps would prob raise 10 degress and it uses a lot more electricity. You could use the 400 but you would need a good inline fan and a cooltube.

Just from my experiences...Hope this helps...

i bought the 250 watt hydrofarm digital ballast switchable mh/hps for 215 off of amazon and it got here yesterday and put it in my tent..as of now i dont have a fan or anything in there but i will soon but the heat is not a issue even right now..the light itself is hot which probably isnt that good but its definitely only around 70-80 where the plants are. And the light off of amazon came with the both bulbs :D look into it if you havent bought yours yet..sorry i didnt let you know sooner!

400 is WAY more heat than a 250. You can run a 250w in a 3x3x5 (ish) and vent into the same room with acceptable temps for the entire grow. if you go with 400, you will need to find a place to vent the hot air. ambient room temp is 87 in the room where the 3x3x5 is when everything is running.

What size of fan would you guys reccomened for the GL60? 4" or 6"? I know the duct openings are only like 5", but I could buy some 6"-4" duct reducers and still hook up a 6"... any thoughts on that? Would a 4" fan keep my GL60 with a 250W HPS/MH cool? I vent in the same room...
