240V Outlets

I have a 240v 30amp circuit for my dryer. It is a 3 cord wire to it. So I believe its what you call a dual phase? I can just change the outlet to an outlet that would fit by 240v ballasts and plug everything into it - correct? I am just curious if there is a big difference between the 3 wire or 4 wire 240v dryer plugs. Thanks.

I don't know about 4 prong dryer plugs but if you have a 3 prong 240v service for your dryer then...yes is the answer.

240v service will have 2 "hot" and 1 ground wire. Hook up an outlet that fits the 240v ballast cords or hook to a light controller wiring in the same manner as a single outlet and you can run 5-6kw with 30 amps of 240v service. (6 will be pushing it when they surge for startup--1kw=4.2 +,- amps on 240v)
