Title says it all. I have my girls under 24/0 veggin right now and I was thinking about shifting to 18/6. 400w HID light btw.
All other factros are stable and isolated.
Is this gonna have any negative effect in the long run?
any veteran advice would be greatly appreciated, ty

actually 18/6 is better then running 24/7. Proven best growth during veg, 24hrs a day actually slows down.

From what I understand 24/0 is just as good as 18/6, 24/0 just makes them grow faster. However, me personally, I like to keep them on 18/6. Sure they wont grow as fast, but I like my plant to have a rest time, plus thats 6hrs. a day of light (power) that wont be on my electric bill.

Also, this may be false... but I have heard from multiple people on here, that during the dark cycles the plants focus more on root growth, and me likes a healthy root system!

Unless you can provide a reputable study or have the credentials of Jorge and Ed Rosenthal combined, I'll stick to the most cited cannabis horticulture authors, thanx ...

I can see the electricity savings, but if it pays off in quicker vegetative growth, isn't it worth it for the profit you're making on harvest, whether it be for personal smoke or otherwise?

Also - why does the plant /need/ a rest? (It doesn't)

This sounds like an urban legend. These types of rumors go around all the time. There are a dozen of this ilk: plant spends time developing sugars, dark is necessary for the plant to grow, etc. . . as far as I can tell (from reported evidence) these are all bullshit.

Ive noticed that growth is faster under 18/6

It does not mean it is better, Some say give young plants as much light as possible 24/7 and + watts makes them grow with a lot more kick over all

I have not had similar experiences. The difficult part is that even between generations, seeds, even clones from the same plant often display such varied vigor that a large-scale experiment would be necessary to conclusively say anything.

The main point from what I've read is that MJ can photosynthesize 24/7, meaning more food and more growth.

This is true man

All ive to say is .. See at the end of the day .. Its night :-|

Well I only use 18/6 when I am getting clones ready to transplant outdoors. I think this lessens stress from the change of photoperiod. Otherwise I go with Ed Rosenthals recommendation of 24/7 light.I have had good results with it .

I meant both sides of the plant whats above and whats below. 24/7 may give great results, but I believe dark even in veg is good and promotes root growth. I'm not arguing against that 'great and powerful big brains who know everything' but it's whatever, both will work awesome.

once i get a basement i'll take a dozen clones, split them up after i get them out of the cloning chamber, evening them up for size, and go side-by-side.

Never had a problem vegging 24 striaght. Untill some one proves it I'll keep it that way.
Same, although the first few weeks I spent so much time adjusting / fiddling with the plants that I basically had it on a 21 hr cycle.

24/7 baby!

More power to you. I did it with lowryder 3 years ago. 2 under 24/0, 2 under 18/6, 2 under 12/12. Would love to see with clones as LR has different phenotypes so the results weren't conclusive. By week 5 they were all under 12/12, the highest yield was from the 18/6 > 24/0 > 12/12

WELL ACTUALLY 18/6 IS BETTER THE PLANT DOESNT NECASARILY(NOT SPELLED RIGHT I KNOW) NEED TO REST BUT DARK TIME IS IMPORTANT FOR PHOTOSYNTHASIS TO WORK AND ROOT MASS IS GAINED DURING DARKTIME AND U GET MORE OF A SUGAR CONTENT THAT WAY

another claim without evidence.

depending on how fast you want your plants to grow is how long your lights are on. If you put them under 24/7 all that will happen is that you will lose SOME yield due to that fact, i read that somewhere when I was doing my homework.
