2014 ballot for legalizing marijuana question

Hi, I got my medical marijuana card in 2013 and it expires in December of this year. I am currently helping a few card holders with free stuff because they are on fixed income and too poor to get it at dispensaries. They haven't registered a grow at my house, because I grow just enough and am not currently looking to grow more.
With the new ballot measure in November that would legalize pot for those 21 and older, do I really need to renew if it passes? Does anyone know if it passes when people can grow 4 plants? I can't find info on what ifs anywhere. I see advantages to keeping a card such as more plants and possession of more ounces, but at $200 for a card and $150 dr fee, it is still pretty expensive. Any links to info to help us all out would be helpful.

The bill goes into force (bits that the state doesn't have to do, grow your own segment and decrim basically) 30 days after it passes, however the state of oregon has until 1-2016 before they have to sell it / clones /etc. The 30 day bit is towards the end of the ballot measure (section 84), and I can't remember where the deadline bit is for the state selling it. (or search as the posters of the ballot neglected to make the pdf searchable).

You can read through the pdf at: http://voteyeson91.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/053text.pdf

Thanks for the reply and link. I found and read the whole thing shortly after posting this thread. Your totally right about the 30 day provision on the ballot measure. I am just guessing based on what I read, the legal part of possession and limits will be in place and my question will get ironed out by dept of agriculture, liquor commission, and rules they put in place to execute the measure much later. I'm hoping the rule about plant count with a residence of 4 plants, will not count medical marijuana plants if another adult 21 and over lives at the residence. Someone should not get a penalty restricting growing because they live with someone with a medical marijuana card. I have a lot of doubts it will work that way. Oregon's liquor commission is very abusive at times to businesses so I think they won't care about my issue unless there is a huge public outcry, but there won't be enough people in this situation to make a fuss.

To be honest, I'd err on the side of caution for the first 3 months to a year (handy for me as I'm up for renewal at the end of march), and stay medical regardless. However, if it does pass and isn't successfully challenged in courts (extremities crossed towards both) then I'm 99.9% sure that you'll be allowed 4 recreational plants (per house) and 6 medical plants per patient so as long as you stay below that limit (depending on how many patients are there, etc) you'll be reasonably safe from state officials.

Note though that at least in SE oregon, they're on occasion getting search warrants (I'd love to know the justification) and doing counts. There was an article about two people busted in the Ontario area (http://tinyurl.com/l5vmmqb), one person was *3* plants over the limit, the other person had 23 plants over the limit and 40-50lbs over the amount limit (apparently the writer needs a refresher course as in excess of means more than....) Neither party have been arrested (yet) but the sheriff interviewed made it seem like while the first MIGHT not get charged with a felony (technically just 1 plant over is a felony) the other is likely going to see some prison time. So keep an eye on the height, width, and bud production of your girls! And of course remember, hash counts the same as bud, so if you find yourself going over have a bubble party (though one neither goes 23 plants over nor accidentally acquire 50 lbs of processed herb.)

I agree. I'll stay on legal grounds like I am and hope clarification on this comes with spring crop. It's strange how much power local sheriffs office have in certain areas. I live near portland, but my friend in Medford hears all kinds of garage from local sheriff about how he thinks medical marijuana is almost all fraud and only people with severe cancer should get it. I'm sure he is just worried about his funding.

Um, Mygirls: you do get that the OP (and most of us on this subforum) is (are) hopping it does pass right? So we're actually worried it *WON'T* pass and we'll have to continue to pay the yearly mmj doctor fee + state fees instead of being able to opt for 4 free plants (per house)... I know my county leadership is hoping it won't pass, but given the massive amount of increased tourism revenue and corresponding job increases they stand to profit on; they're being entirely short sighted as legal marijuana is the one thing that idaho can't compete with rural oregon on... Mind you, the wording of the bill means the local powers that be also couldn't institute a sin tax on it which is somewhat a bummer (if they'd do a reasonable sin tax, not a sin tax designed to cause people to not want to open a shop.)

Hell, if it had passed a year and some change ago, you likely would have had much better luck borrowing an ounce or two on your I5 journey up north to deal with your nephew as then every house in oregon could have been growing as opposed to us ~65k patients (or their corresponding growers, some of whom aren't in the state).

Really, I don't expect you to change your stance as from your posts the current rules and regulations fit your situation nicely (aside from you apparently being out of herb prior to outdoor harvest season), I just hope that there are enough of the population in my camp this time around. Really though, based on past voter actions odds are your side will win yet again. That said, I'm still donating to Yes on 91 (as I did for the Colorado safer campaign) when I can as it's nice to dream. Heck, this is the first time a state political party has endorsed legalization that I can recall so that and the serious planning going on in government could be taken as signs that at last the times are changing....

Right, have to go flush out the finishing plants with the molasses infused water, ~10 days till the big snip. Fingers crossed I have to have a bubble party, still no clue on what my first outdoor yields will be, but for the most part the plants look flipping huge ;)

To everyone: remember regardless of your opinion on the measure, VOTE. The deadline to register in Oregon is October 14th, if you have an oregon drivers license (or permit, or even an ID) you can register online at:

not sure if it true, but have you heard the news for Colorado, they want to legalize meth now. now you tell me, what states are going to follow if that's the next thing the people want.. just sayin.
its just going to open a can of worms if passed here.

Nope, it's not true (pretty much if you hear anything that sounds insane, google it. Lately odds are it's an empire news article that social media sorts are taking seriously as they lack fact checking inclinations.) Really though there are some arguments in favor of legalizing drugs (ala the level of marijuana legalization that oregon currently has for possession) to force the system to go the treatment route for users not the incarceration route whilst still prosecuting creators. By and large those arguments are still constrained to the libertarian factors in the US though they're starting to make more inroads into the mainstream...
