2 mother plant questions....need pro answer!

#1 If I grow from feminized seeds and pick the best female to clone, will the clones still have hermi characteristics?

.....I assume the answer is yes, but I wanted to check. If that's the case, I'm going to start using regular seeds.

#2 If I start from regular seeds, should I flip to 12/12 before they show sex and pic the best female to go back to vegetative stage?

Thanks a bunch!

#1 Yes as a feminized seed has generally been made from Male banana pollen produced on a female so it can have a tendancy to go hermie. It all depends really on stress factors and how long you plan on keeping it as a mother. I currently use Fem'd seeds as mother plants but i am only on my 2nd run of clones from them.

#2 You could just take a clone and root it and put that clone on 12/12 to determine sex rather than stress the plant you hope to keep as a mother by switching to and from lighting schedules.

As always Jonda is right, there is of course a debate on fem seeds and hermies, but less stress means less chance of hermies. Also, if you have the room maybe flower one of each of the the fem clones, then you will find the differences in the mothers and decide what you like most instead of just the biggest plant.

Thanks guys. Great answers with no "BS" +rep for that, haha.

#2 So just top around 12 inches and clone the top to check sex?

Now I'm stuck looking for regular Super Lemon Haze and regular Headband. No luck so far.

I have a perpetual grow and have been using clones for multiple generations that all started from feminized seeds.
Ive only had 1 hermie, that was completely my fault. The plants had gone through crazy stress (8 days winter time power outage, then a flood and move 2 months later while 1/2 through flowering)

I dont keep mother plants anymore, I just take cuttings 2 weeks before they go into flowering. Space issues for Mom's in my grow.

Alot of strains out there are in fem'd versions only.

I have found alot of Greenhouse seeds only come in fem'd editions.

Some of the more popular breeders out there are working on reg variations but it all depends on the lineage of the parents or whether the breeding they have done has come from a female clone only strain etc etc.

good look on your search for Reg variations.

I have never tried to clone a top, Cervantes says that the higher up on the plant the harder it is to get it to root. I could be wrong here, not a big cloner, yet. (IMO) I would start with a lower shoot to clone and flower.

fem seeds shouldn't have hermi tendencies if bred correctly.
fem seeds from a reputable breeder should be just as fine as regular ones. I won't worry with Serious seeds fems for example.

you can either stress a female plant with light regime changes, overfeeding, overheating or whatever and get some bananas to pop.
or you can do it to a lot of females and the use only the ones that DIDN'T grew bananas to make fem beans with - you spray 'em with corroidal (or however you write it) silver and they pop bananas.
Some breeders just don't check their plants well enough and thats when fem beans with higher tendency to become hermi come from.
