1st Time Clone (did I do this totally wrong)

This is my first clone off of my first seed grow. The parents are 4+ ft tall and 2 1/2 weeks into flowering.

Here's what I did...

Took a clean razor and sterilized it in alcohol

At a 45 degree angle, cut my cuttings (below the third set of leaves on branches that were growing up on the plants)

Dipped in Dip 'N Grow (filled to concentrate level line and 4 oz purified water) for 5 seconds

Put stems in peat plugs and hydroton pelets

Then I read an article about easily cloning using DWC (which is what I'm using). The article said to take the cuttings and put them right into the hydroton pelets and make sure the stem is submerged in to at least 1" in the bubbling water.

So, it was two hours after I originally put my clones into the plugs that I went to put them right into the grow medium. When I saw them they were pretty weak looking (bent over).

So, questions...

Did I do this completely wrong?

Are they supposed to do this at the beginning?

Should I start over?

How many more cuttings can I take from my plants before they start suffering? Mine are starting to show buds so I don't want to stress them.

Using DWC, hydroton, Dip 'N Grow, etc...what would be the best way at this point for me to clone my plants?

dude those look fine to me, the clones i took looked like a rotten gooey mess... i messed them up pretty good, they were lying on the soil after i clipped them and now they look fine... a couple look like your pics right now, just mist them with water a couple times a day and they should be ok

Slight wilting and yellowing is normally a sign that your clones are beginning to root.

One thing tho clones taken from flowering plants root faster but take forever to start growing, In my experience.

i'd put half a 2L bottle (side with the top on it) and make 4-5 holes in it with a heated screwdriver or nail and mist the clones and then put one of those over each to keep them humid

That's a great idea. Do you think the bubbles coming from underneath will produce enough moisture to make it humid?

Ideally you are supposed to clone while the mother plant is still in veg.
You should be ok though , might take a week longer to develop roots.

1st time i cloned i used rockwool and got 4 out of 4 for practiced then i did 12 seriously and only got 4 out of 12. now im in the process of building an aerocloner, just waiting for the pump and sprayers:bigjoint:

I had to figure out the sex first. I pulled three males from the eight I started with. I'd love to save the mother but I don't have anywhere where I can keep her in veg. I plan on building a cab for one (or a couple) though. Hopefully it'll be ready by the next time I clone.

IMO you don't need to mist them at all, they don't need humidity domes either. Submerging them into water only washes the rooting hormone away, it might have worked better to just leave them in the peat plugs until roots show out the bottom, then transplant to the hydroton and DWC.

Hope it all works out well, give them 2 weeks to show roots.

dont make it harder than it should be.

Cutting, glass of water, few days of indirect light and u get clones.

Once u see root formation feed a couple drops of veg nutes and move closer to ur light to establish a root ball, and change ur water daily... its that simple honestly.

I agree with the last poster, ive never had to use a dome, although most people swear by it and, I have never misted my clones. Anytime i have ever attempted trying anything else i have had almost total failure. Ive only just started to dip in clonex and they are taken the longest ive ever had to date.

U can put ur clones directly into hydroton as well!
just dont drown them!
put an inch hydroton in the bottom of the net pot, then place cutting in it, fill the rest of the way with hydroton.
keep ur water level a half inch lower than than the bottom of ur net pot in the bucket.
the bubbles that froth up, pop and splash enuff water and nutes up into the rock that is sufficient enuff for roots to grow down into.
u will have roots growing down into ur bucket in a couple days i guarantee u.

Cool, thanks :-)

I may have to lower the water a bit then because the stem is about 1/2" in the water with the bubbles going. I'll lower the water down to just below the net pot. Hopefully They aren't wrecked yet. But it's not like I can't get a couple more if they don't make it :-)

Hey check it out also, u can clone plants at least in my experience to date 3 weeks into flower with buds, but they take longer sometimes a month. It is best to clone during veg tho. I learned the same way u are in my very first grow, by seedling, sexing, and cloning flowering plants.
