1st grow: Are these just burn spots or something worse?

On Day 28 (Vegged for 16). Plants looking good, area good, no problems with heat or anything despite my initial worries. I have a vent+fan sending fresh air into the closet all day while the door is closed, and I leave the door open from 7:30 to 7:30 while the lights are on.

Anyway...I have one plant with a huge blotch on it that I assumed was burning, but it is a larger area than just the tips like the other plants...it has not gotten bigger. I also have what I think are burnt tips on some other leaves (all different plants)...and then on one plant, a very brittle end (some broke off) with no discoloration...

Can someone take a look and let me know if they think it's just burn spots?

I am running eight 100W (equivalent) CFLs configured around the plants to provide top and side lighting.

I do not think lights will just burn the tips. If that is happening, you'd get overall bleaching it that is the case. But unless your lights are just sitting on your plant, you're going to have a really hard time burning them with CFLs, at least on a mature plant.

More than likely, something is slightly off in your soil, could be pH. If its just a few tips, I would not fret overly much about it.

they look exactly like mine did when i burnt the tips on them with my cfls. they got bleached and curled up that same way so i would have to disagree with jericho.

Could be, I'm just going by my own grows thus far with a similar technology (PLLs). Once they are mature, they can practically be 2-3" away with no problems. Young plants, no, but mature plants seem to be just fine.

the cfls have to touch the leaves really to bleach them like that. mine are good with them 2" away. bugs me when they shoot up over night lol

Thanks for the posts guys! The lights are sometimes no less than 1" away, especially on the sides. I have four plants in my setup. Ideally I will only have 2 once the females reveal themselves. I'm thinking sometime in the next week I will see the signs...

I am keeping an eye out and if I see any circular orange/brown spots developing on leaves that are far away from the lights, I will be a bit more concerned.

I've been using a water testing kit to test the PH of the water I'm using (comes out of the tap at somewhere between 6.5 and 7, usually closer to 7) but I am going to pick up a soil test kit this weekend I think, along with some micro-nutrients at a hydro shop.
