1000w of light and home electrical limits?

I'm curious of how much juice a modern homes' electrical can handle. I'm really only planning on around 2000watts (1000w light, 400w light + random electronics. Should I install 2 breakers and run a dedicated line splitting up the 2000w?

That's about what I'm running and I need to tap two circuits. This requires an extension cord from the laundry room.

Conventional 110/120v circuits run about 15amps. This is good for up to around 1800watts. Check your circuit breaker, it should have all the information you're looking for.
