1000w LED on Lightmover

With the lower cost of LED’s I would just go with a second light
Light mover operational cost isn’t worth it IMO
what about the operational cost by the power company? Does the cost of a new 1000 dollar light plus the added 12kwh a day really make up for it if the lightmover produces the same? Let's see what this little experiement will show us. I've heard people claim that light movers don't even work with LED...

In a long tent like 10feet+then a light mover that goes end to end constantly would light up more plants daily especially for veg.....or just turn them by hand when the LEDs are closer to bloom......lots of airflow with <78F moves larger plants well so they dont need lights moving also.

I think he should focus on plants over DIY project - faded / yellowed / untrained. Light mover would be kinda moot as modern lighting is more efficient.

Not only that - you add cost of frame out and other unnecessary work.

Easier to par map the spread then supplement lighting if needed.

There's a well known chap on here uses a light mover with LED over a 3x8 space.

His name escapes me, let me see if I can find it.
Was only taking about it a week ago

Edit , His name is @Hook Daddy

When it moves away ,and for how long is like a constantly cloudy day when its not close over top....so every day the plants dont get the entire days light that they could have not moving away.....its harder to keep a level canopy of buds ,as some will stretch up further away from the moving light.

If you can keep an even canopy then you can have the lights lower , as long as the DLI is correct then the results are the same.
The guy I mentioned Scrogs the whole thing properly so overcomes the uneven canopy situation. So I can see how it works so well for him.

I Imagine ideally the rail needs to be timed to spend less time over the middle due to the double pass

For me the benefit would be the saving in electricity because that's the limiting factor.
It cost a fortune and its probably going to double in a few month.

You need a lightrail 4.0 or 4.5 for that you can adjust the speed and dwell time.

My Light Rail 4.0 uses 9W so a hell of a lot cheaper than any 2nd grow light tho cost as much as a new light.

I've run it at 12" with 1000W SHPS and the plants flourished.

It's paid for itself a few times over by now.

Doesn't generate any extra heat either.

Sorry, but wrong.

I can’t contradict that we are talking LED’s and many even need supplemental heat
Different animal

A lot more growers deal with too much heat than visa-versa so I doubt that's a big issue. LED, HID really not a lot of difference as far as moving them.

A moving light hits the plants from different angles shining on leaves for a bit each cycle that would be in shade all the time otherwise as well.

27 plants in there. Ones in the middle are 3 - 5 plants/pot and sitting on styrofoam blocks to even up the canopy a bit. Light is moving front to back with about a 10sec pause at each end of a 5ft move. With less side light like with the LEDs the plants would have to be in a more rectangular format.

light movers became pretty much obsolee when we went from high-power single point sources of light like 1000W HPS, to modular fixtures with many sources of light that can be placed appropriately

at the end of the day there is only so much PPF to go around - your setup goes a long way to turning PPF into PPFD, and light movers really arent the most useful.

anybody whos ever had one malfunction and mess up a crop can testify to keeping it simple

In nature the sun moves really slow and not much away most days.....more useful for the plants would be 2 plant movers for the same long larger areas, for lots of plants like go 10-20ft each not moving so far away......anyways plants want photons not too far away for sure LED usage...Things go just fine up to 5X5LEDtent auto set timed air , waterings and misting humidity veg into transition without needing lightmovers, then the second 5X5LEDtent is set for bloom without lightmovers also 1 of them timed pumps spraying and watering is far more important for rooting healthy plants than a lightmover...........if u got the licence to do dozens indoors in a long room then use the longest room,or huge tent, to bloom them with lightmovers lol .

Cheers, never seen one in real life so didn't know that .
Mine is a Light Rail 4.0. Has the speed and pause duration controllers on it. Makes a hum when running near or at it's slowest speed. I just use 4 - 6 screws to hold the rail to the ceiling in the grow room. Usually only has to move about 3ft max so don't need a dozen screws on the 6'6" rail. Made in CO, USA too!
