I just wired up my 1000w hps ballast from htg supply. Right now it is a tool box, but the buzzing is out of control. The buzzing can be heard in the entire house.

I know Ill have to insulate the ballast box, but Ill also have to cool the box. Can anyone recommend a idea or solution. Someone else has had to do this before. The ballast shouldnt be any louder than the average setup. Do normal ballasts use rubber mounts for the magnet?

check your wiring and make sure the connections are really tight. dont insulate it or u will shorten your ballast life. the insulation will just keep the heat in. i have a 600w ballast and i can barely hear it so there may be something wrong with it

Upon further inspection the ballast isnt too loud once it has warmed up, it changes to decent humming. Ill have to find something else to mount it in, and the ballast will be mounted to the enclosure with rubber between the magnet and the enclosure. Ive seen other magnetic ballasts and their enclosure are just vented. So I'm hoping this wont need an intake or exhaust fan, just some holes in the box.:peace:
