1000 watt Split Ballast

Can someone help me out? Can i run two 600 watts lights off the 1000 watt lumatek 240v split ballast effectively? I am trying to cut down on power and know the Euro systems makes a split set up but they are expensive. Or what would you suggest? Thanks much all...
