1000 watt hps to much?

Yes it can but your ratio of electrical expense to yield would be far from ideal. You'd also have to be more careful with the temps, having a larger light in a smaller room. A 400w can light a 2.5'x2.5' area just about perfectly. A 600w would be more than enough light for a 3x3.

I'm not saying it'll kill you and how bad it is depends on your electric costs. I'd expect a well set-up 400w grow area to use around 100w in fans as well. Providing a square foot per plant, 3'x3' supports nine plants. A 1000w can easily support 4'x4', or 16 plants. Regardless of what anything costs, using 3'x3' you still end up with barely more than half the weight you could've had for whatever you're spending on electric.

The cost of your lights depends on your electrical cost. How much do you pay for a kilowatt of electricity? Average cost is about .10 cents/kilowatt. If you are in the average range a 1000 watt light @ 18hours/day will run you $60/month.

Im using 1000 watts in a 3'' x 3'' my temps are 72 average its all about the set up of air flow. I have air comming in from the bottom two round vents and the top round vent out throught a cool tube through a carbon filter straight out a window fan.

That is kind of too small for an HPS. 1000w hps cover 4x4 areas real nicely (thats not to say they won't cover a 3x3 area nicely). I'd be more worried about heat and fire issues. Seriously these fuckers get really hot. So hot you could use their heat as a hand warmer/drier. I'm not kidding. I don't know how you could fit most air cooled 1000w HPS setups in a 3x3 let alone a 4x4 space. My hoods are freaking huge (granted I do have magnum XXXL hoods). The only thing I'd shove in an 3x3 area might be a cool tubed 1000w hps, but I'd most likely stick with a 600w setup of some kind.

On a side note running a 1000w HPS in most part of the world is a little over 8 cents a kilowatt. So it really isn't much to run just one. Depending on the hours you use it and your electrical rate it's most likely 20-40 dollars a month just for the light.

Nice little setup you have there, once you figure out your light and heat issue. I am curious though...the tent seems pretty full already, footprint-wise, and the plants are pretty small. Whatcha gonna do in a month or so, when (hopefully) they are 3x that size or bigger?
