$1000 dollar grow set up. opinions plz

the first paragraph is a kit... but im thinking... do i need an mh for veg.. some say no, some say yes.. if i wanted it.. id have to buy a digital ballast... and that means i couldnt get the kit.. and id have to buy all the stuff seperatley and lose the savings...

and i dont wanna to buy seperate shit for 6500 cfls for veg..

am i ok with this set up...

and if i were just to grow in my closet... do i really need the ducting/fans/ air attachment reflector. (just a normal reflector).. couldnt i just open the doors during day.. then close them at night.. or vice versa... more likely open them in the morning.. cuz i dont want hermies.

if i had a grow box.. obviously i would want the exhaust and all that.

You can buy a metal halide to HPS conversion bulb for vegging. I use one of these: http://www.businesslights.com/ushio-400w-5200k-universal-metal-halide-conversion-lamp-p-1402.html

you could save money and not use fox farm. Then get a 400w mh. You will want both a veg and flower area. or do you want that down time between harvests? Or go with 100w cfl's and do 6 plants at a time. 400w is a little small for 12 plants.

haha sounds lika a fun project. dont feed plants more then every other watering if plants are in fox farm ocean forest soil u should not need ntrients for 3 weeks maybe nitogen. the way i c it is you should use that cheap bulb 2 veg them and buy a better one when it comes 2 flowering. use the cheap bulb for veg how bigs yor room?

If you're not bothered about waiting between harvests just get an enhanced spectrum bulb for vegging, they work almost as well as a MH. If you got an air cooled hood you should be able to keep it close enough to eliminate stretch.

idc about having veg and flower area.. im just gunna have the 1 are for both.. then start over after the harvest each time...

and u say to use a conversion bulb... i thought ballists were specific to an hps or mh bulb... less u get a digital one.. which are more expensive.. and switch between hps and mh.

you can get at least a 400w hps bulb to run in 400w mh ballast. not sure about other watt lights. the bulb is about 50.00 and the hps is like 380w

ive been researching.. cant u get an hps ballast. .then get an mh conversion bulb... which fit into any hps ballast

Don't think so. I looked when I got mine.Something to do with the power the 400w hps cov.bulb runs at like 380w in the 400w ballast

A conversion bulb is a metal halide bulb that has been designed to be used with an HPS ballast. The one that I use is 5200k and works very well for vegging (see link I provided in first post). Most hydro shops have them.

As Hairy Bob suggested, you can also use a full spectrum HPS bulb. I use this one:

during the flower phase, because I personally want more of the blue spectrum during flowering then a standard HPS provides. It will work fine for vegging as well.

I use both these bulbs with the same HPS ballast, no problems.

The simplest way to get a rough idea is in grams per watt of lighting. A good grower should be able to get around 1g/w, and 0.5g/w is good for a first time.

just my two cents fox farm is good nutes/soil..if you wanna save a few bucks get the root organics soil/SOILMIX..they have two the other is soillessmix..its like 5bucks cheaper a bag..is good i made a switch..also you can start feeding it nutes a little sooner..it has about 2-3weeks or nutrients in teh soil..and fox farm about 3-4weeks..but its whatever

$1000 for all that,sounds like a rip job.You could have pieced together 1000W setup for same price easily,good luck with ur grow bro
