FIMing is an interesting technique. You kinda have to hit it just right. I have seen some diagrams out there which give a good idea of where to cut and what's going on.
If you FIM too low, it acts just like a topping, but with some damaged leaves. That's what yours looks like to me. No biggie. You still broke apical dominance and will get a bushier plant out of it.
I tend to just top and super crop anymore. Depending on how the plant grows, I may top two or three times on the same plant (top, then top the two, then top the four).
I would recommend practicing different techniques to see what works for you. Above all, always listen to the plants.
