    Update on Advanced Nutrients

I don't think anyone has said the boutique "lineups" don't work. It's just that it seems like the long road to what is a fairly basic part of growing. Instead of trying another boutique brand (Advanced Nutrients) next time, why not try something simple. It would be interesting to see how...

Bagseed & MiracleGro Tomato ("the cheapsta'")

They're good for a smaller space (4' tall, for example). If you do a taller space, you have to make a fixture and use the 14-18w versions (fewer bulbs). It's too much work hanging bulbs in a 4x4x7' tall space. But, in a 2x4x4' tall space, it's not bad using a lot of 8-10w bulbs (more bulbs, more...

Bagseed & MiracleGro Tomato ("the cheapsta'")

I'm glad you like it. However, I wanted to clarify that I don't recommend CFLs. You'll get much more lumens per watt from LED. And, GE's BrightStik is cost competitive with CFL ($3.50 US for a 60w equiv. $8.00 for 100w equiv). Due to the way the diodes are forward-facing (not omnidirectional by...

Outside visitors can't read my blog

As mentioned a couple months ago in the LED forum's dustup about sticky clutter: forums excel at conversation, not topical, easily-discoverable structured information. For example, one can't go back and edit a topic after a day or two. I'm sorry for the defensive tone this seems to have taken...

Outside visitors can't read my blog

""" my "personal info" section """" I'm adding them back. We'll see what happens. When I saw my signature, I thought it was my mistake. But, everything deleted from my profile? That looked more like something else. Hopefully I'm not stuck in the Catch-22 I mentioned. That would seem quite...

Outside visitors can't read my blog

Hi Sunni, it appears someone deleted my links to GrassCity. I had all my blogs linked in my "personal info" section, and one in my signature. Those links are gone. Nobody PMed me to inform me of this. You can imagine how this feels like a catch-22. I tried to improve the blog system but was...

Bagseed & MiracleGro Tomato ("the cheapsta'")

Trying to catch up for the past week: Jan 30 (Day 66) This is the plant before feeding: UVB: I reduced the "compact" CFL UVB 10.0 bulb to 1 hour (15, 15, 15, 15 minutes). I feel like I've seen too much UVB (too late into flower) cause the trichs to amber too soon. Maybe I'm being too...

Golden Tree nutrients!!!!!! well worth the cost!!

Do you have any before/after photos? Anything that shows that Golden Tree is worth the expense (which, at face value, looks like a huge ripoff)? The reason I ask is that I'd be hard-pressed to imagine anything working that much better than what I do right now. Not that what I do is "special" or...

Bagseed & MiracleGro Tomato ("the cheapsta'")

I use 3:1 to 4:1 (cool to warm in veg) and 1:1 (in flower) because that's what was recommended in captainmorgan's thread where he used Cree LED lightbulbs two years ago. All white light follows similar curves as the following (a spectral graph for SMD5630 strip LEDS): You can see how warm...

    Update on Advanced Nutrients

I do. I think most cannabis-specific "boutique" lineups are ripoffs. Cannabis doesn't need bottles of "Dirty Sanchez" and "Slutty Doris." It locks people into proprietary "schedules" and obscures the NPK ratio which I believe is more informative (and allows for moving to other products).

Looking to buy marshydro LEDs ?help

California Lightworks played games with theirs too. (They may still. I haven't looked.). In their literature they give PAR as "adjusted PAR" with a footnote explaining how it's been adjusted.

New to the game. Nutrient help!!!

That's not been my experience. I do believe synthetics are harmful to the soil's microbiology. But, I don't believe it's an either-or proposition, as if the tiniest amount of synthetic will sanitize the soil. It seems more like a matter of degrees. I add a little sugar to offset the effect of...

Bagseed & MiracleGro Tomato ("the cheapsta'")

    Jan 24 (Day 60) 22nd feeding. 3.0g/gal. 452ppm measured (152 water + 300). Runoff: 1400. 10% runoff. Jan 26 (Day 62) 23rd feeding. 3.0g/gal. 458ppm measured (152 water + 306). Runoff: 1300. 10% runoff. The plant looked like this before feeding: Lighting. I added a light to the center of...

    Phredh Filter + Duct fan?

You definitely want a speed controller. If you move more air than you need to, the carbon filter won't be as effective. The longer the air circulates through the carbon particles, the more effective the odor neutralization. At some volume it will be so ineffective that you'll be able to smell...

Philips Lumiled (China tries to buy)

Basic gist of the story: a Chinese venture capital firm agrees to buy Philips Lumiled division. I thought this was interesting since Luxeons are good, the Philips lightbulb is around 100-110 L/w. (Considerably better than Cree's 88 L/w). I wondered what the Chinese would do to it if (considering...

Golden Tree nutrients!!!!!! well worth the cost!!

Just to clarify: I didn't say it won't work. Someone boasted about fan-leaf size as proof that it works. I simply pointed out that my first MiracleGro test produced the most massive fan leaf I've ever seen. Maybe I should repackage MiracleGro and sell it on eBay under the name "Platinum Tree...

New to the game. Nutrient help!!!

I browsed the California regulatory site and they look similar to me. AN has more arsenic in some products. JR Peters has more mercury. It's not surprising when I wouldn't expect Advanced Nuutrient's pedophile leadership to put so much care into the product as you imply.

    Adding a 5000K, 300Watt LED to flowering.

I'm not familiar with Feit. But, it sounds good (38 watts for 4000 lumens, that's over 100 L/w). I use Cree, GE Bright Sticks and Phillips A19 bulbs. The GE and Phillips are over 100 L/w. I'm growing with them right now. I would recommend the GE or Phillips instead of the Feit because they are...

What differentiates a new grower to an experienced grower?

Maybe the best indicator of when you're experienced: when you have hubris -- and get irritated at the inexperienced complaining about the experienced. Just get your experience, then you can set the standard which you believe should exist. BTW: The ignore button can be useful if you...
