thanks for the replies people. after investigation turns out there were sciara fly larvae in the soil that had chomped on the root. see little worm in centre of pic on lump of soil. time to go and purchase a good quality grow medium. lesson learnt! any more comments on best grow medium/ soil to...

Please see attachment. What would cause a sprout to fold over like this? 5 days old since planting germinated seed. Moist soil but did not water it for 3 days. Tried watering since but not helped. 3" Under a 45w cfl. Ideas please? Cheers
