you want soil with no nutes in it so u can control yourself for veg stage use fert npk 20 20 20 and yes u can switch soil type i recommend using mircle grow transplanting mix get at wallmart for when it comes time to transplant it is a liqued additive bloom fert npk 5 50 17 u only need a 400w...

another thing is, by saying transplanting i mean from one small pot to another. Not from vegitative to flowering.
