Interested to see what the cheap nutes do for you - I use cheap-ass nutes (in hempy pots) and I'm very pleased with the results. 3 parts perlite to 1 part vermiculite would get rid of the perlite drying out problem ... the vermiculite holds the water and the perlite provides the drainage.
